New Post about the DD40X-Need help

Unread postby maxsdad » Mon Jul 16, 2012 5:42 pm

Hello:

!*snd-help*!
I downloaded the DD40X Engine Simulation .bin file but I don't have the knowledge as to where and what to do with it.
I just bought the DD40X and in trying the "Big Jack's Climb" scenario that came with it I found that it couldn't get out of it's own way.I gave up when it was down to 8 MPH with full power applied. I'm hoping that this .bin file will fix that.
Can someone give me some instructions on where I should put this file?(no dirty remarks, please) *!lol!*

Thanks

I found something in the DTM folder. In the Type 01 folder there is a simulation folder with the file DD40X Engine Simulation .bin. in it. I guess that's it. I will make a backup of that and put this other one in it's place. I hope that works.

Thanks

I already tried it there. It didn't work because it went under Type01 and Jack's Big Climb is engine 6936.

Ah,
But all is not lost. I made up modified bin and two DSCV files for the original, and the new one. Read the READ ME.

The read-me.txt file under 'original DD40X' said to place this under a 'MODELS' folder. I don't have that folder under DTM, the only folder under DTM is DD40X. Am I missing a prior modification or should I setup this new 'MODELS' folder?
Thanks, Paul

If you have a folder named; Type01, that means you have the new version. And if your saying that the scenario uses the old DD40A X, then your out of luck. I don't have the scenario. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I using what RSC gave me and it didn't come with a 'MODELS' folder so I asked if that folder is a prior modification that all.

And I was saying that if you didn't have the Models folder, you have the new version. Here are the paths to both versions;
Original; Assets\DTM\Models\RailVehicles\Diesel\DD 40A X\UP\Simulation.

New; Assets\DTM\DD40X\Type01\RailVehicles\Simulation.

Just explaining and showing differences between the versions. You are the one who said that scenario is using the original version. Must be a old scenario.
Anyway, there's mods to both versions, if anybody wants or needs them.

When I referred to 'original DD40X' I was referring to your DTM.zip file that contained to 2 read-me files, and 1 of the files was under a folder called 'original DD40X' not any scenario being run. I'm glad we got that straight. Jack's Big Climb" scenario uses engine # 6936 and if no modifications are done to that engine it will never climb that mountain.

I already tried it there. It didn't work because it went under Type01 and Jack's Big Climb is engine 6936.

Now were back where we started. Engine 6936 is either the old version, or new version. I made up files for both versions, so it will climb the hill. Hope this helps.

Paul:

I just bought my DD40X the other day and I have the "models" folder in mine. It is in the first drop down of the DTM folder. It and the DD40X folder are there. When I open the DD40X folder I have 6936, Type 01 and type 02 plus inputMappers and blueprints.pak. Just wanted to let you know. I did a validate with Steam last night. Took almost an hour. Maybe it fixed something here. Worth a try.
Now I'm going to check Krellnut's fix. Hope it works.

Krellnut:

I just checked the "models" folder and it doesn't have a "simulation" folder. What I did is copied the simulation folder from the Type 01 folder into the 6936 folder with your first .bin in it. Now I'm going to run the scenario and see if it works better. I don't know why they would make the 6936 the running engine while the possible fixes are in the type 01.
Let you know what happens.

Now I got a beef with this thing. I went onto steam, and clicked on the DD40X loco, and steam isn't telling me I already own it. I bought it when it first came out, and when the second version was released Caesar sent me a link. Now I can't update the thing, if there is any.

OK Guys:

Here's my thoughts on this.
I just completed the scenario. It took me 2 hours and 55 minutes. The fixes didn't help.
The fastest speed I got out of this thing is Approx. 28 MPH on the flat just after leaving San Bernardino. Once I hit the incline, speed went down to an average of 8.5 MPH with a low of 7.8 MPH. It ran like that at 100% power all the way to and just beyond Cajon North Track. Once I hit the peak and started down hill I got up to 30 MPH and then hit the switch at Summit Track 2 and the scenario was over before I could see how fast it would get. I got my Atta Boy and green check mark and that was it.
My conclusions are.
1) That's the way it's supposed to be and they wrote the wrong time down. 55 Min. should have been 175 Min. There were no AI problems. A few trains that had a long wait for me to pass, but they didn't cause me any trouble. Scenario ran as smooth as silk.

2) There is something very wrong with the scenario and the train just won't go any faster. The reason I say this is because I ran the other 2 scenarios that came with the DD40X yesterday and it flew down the tracks at the posted speeds with no problems. I know the trains were shorter and the terrain was flatter and in 1 it had 2 helper engines, but if that were the case it seems that they would have added more helpers to this scenario.

So I am going to call it DONE. The only thing I would have liked is since it is such a LONG run why didn't they make it a daylight trip so we could at lest check out the scenery!!!! It was mostly a hands off run at full power and no braking.

Krellnut, thanks for your help. I see you now have your own quest.
Paul, I think that's it. I'm just going to change the time reference and call it a day.
