I think what you probably mean is it leaves at 2 Mbps and arrives at 50 KBps. Note the upper and lower case b's.
2 Mbps is equal to 256 KBps, which is a little closer to what you're seeing, but it's also equal to 2048 Kbps
Bps = bytes per second
bps = bits per second
It takes 8 bits to equal a byte.
Gotta' watch those b's.

ISP's use the lower case b in their advertising to give people the impression they're getting faster connection speeds.
2 Mbps sounds faster than 256 KBps, when in fact it's the same speed.
You're loss of connection speed could be the result of several different factors. I would bet Verizon advertises that you get up to 2 Mbps, which means anything less is within their standards.
