New US Route

They really need to do an SD70M to accurately portray UP operations.

a fantastic new US route is coming to Train Simulator 2012 this August, and it looks set to be a tough one! The railroad from Cheyenne to Laramie, Wyoming, has such tough grades that the Union Pacific railroad built locomotives specially to handle it, giving us the Challenger and Big Boy that are still revered today. With Union Pacific diesel horsepower on hand and some heavy freight trains to move, this will be a great new expansion pack for all US rail fans.

Running between Cheyenne Yard and Laramie Yard, the line is 60 miles in length and is flanked on either side by the wide, open grasslands and rocky outcrops of the Wyoming landscape. The line also serves a number of small industrial yards along its length.

Along with this great new railroad line, the pack includes SD70M, SD40-2, ES44 and SW10 locomotives in Union Pacific livery.

Thanks for the info. Almost every UP train I see has at least one SD70M; not often leading these days though.

Just on the odd chance that someone from RSC is lurking, I wish that they would return to posting messages about new routes, etc. as they used to: simple, readable. Maybe I'm alone on this issue, but I despise both Facebook and Twitter and will not become a member/victim of either one. I'm not saying that RSC shouldn't continue with their Facebook & Twitter posts, just that they should bring back straightforward messages. Please? Pretty pleae with clean ballast on top??

Thanks for the information about Buford. I'd thought that Gravel had always been the location for the granite extraction on the line. (I knew what you meant anyway. )

Didn't I read somewhere that there was some kind of Facebook 'competition' to suggest scenarios for the route?

If it were me, for an end-to-end run, I'd suggest Main 1 from Cheyenne to Hermosa and then Main 3 down into Laramie. Or the same routing in the opposite direction.

Keep in mind the Challenger and Big Boy were made by Iron Horse House, and they are not even listed in their cataloge any more. I would not be holding my breath waiting for an upgrade.

The Big Boy is now managed by RSC. I was told quite a while back that they intend to update it. I'm not sure why they haven't yet.

It not only needs an upgrade to TS2012 lighting, but it needs an overhaul, and remodeling with so many errors that I don't have time to name now, but they include sound, driving rod width,color, tender rivets, cab, and the list goes on...
