For the UP affectionado, the following book is the end-all to all regarding UP in Cheyenne:

History of the Union Pacific Railroad in Cheyenne (out of print)

...and some good armchair reading:

Union Pacific Across Sherman Hill

Sherman Hill: A Railfan's Perspective

Also, Don Strack has compiled a terrific book on UP in Ogden, UT. While the it doesn't cover Sherman Hill, the book nevertheless gives important historical insight to UP's operations on the far-end of the line.

Ogden Rails: A History of Railroading at the Crossroads of the West

Here's a good price on the book Pam linked to above:

Union Pacific's Sherman Hill in the Diesel Era

COOL, Now I have a proper place to play with my Challenger locomotive. Any chance the Cheyenne yard will be part of the route? One of the main reasons Cheyenne is where it's at is due to winter halt of construction of the railroad half way up Sherman Hill. I hail from Cheyenne and the rocks need a little work but are fairly reminisent of the area. If I can be of any help to the developers of the route feel free to drop me a line.

Might be a while until I can get back to it. Right now, I'm up to my armpits in other things.

Marc, without disclosing anything in particular, has there been any discussion about new or updated locomotives or rolling stock?

Let's be pleasant travellers; it's so short a ride."
