Discuss almost anything about RailWorks.

according to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Track_ballast its not the color of ballast that dfines the class of road, but rather the amount used. The picture looks more as if the line has just been freshly maintained with new ballast added. I can guarantee that in a few months, that pretty white ballast will begin to darken until its just as dark as the other track.
Now, I grew up on the Rock Island Mainline, and i've lived near the UP, SP, and Now i live next to BNSF, and to be honest, all the ballast looks about the same color as the rock they used back on the Rock Island.. Its also why when i saw Horseahoe curve, I had to have it. They got the ballast color correct. Its a small thing, but its my biggest complaint about railworks. Theyve never gotten that ballast color correct.
Using different color ballasts to designate different classes of track, appears to be a technique used in model railroading. I could be incorrect there though..

Both are mains - there are no secondaries along the Laramie Sub - track #1 simply has a freshly laid section of ballast is all. Surely you're not suggesting that the ballast color be accurate mile for mile to the stone?

I wonder if they will do ALL of Sherman Hill: both the double track main and the low-grade "new line"?

Each individual piece of ballast should be similar to its real-life counterpart, you lazy bum.

It does look good. I wonder when RSC will redo the ES44 Loco?

There is an opportunity here - someone could sell 3rd party content with various types and shapes of rocks.

For the die hard fan of Sherman Hill, the Fall 2008 issue of Classic Trains has an eight page photo story taken at the Hermosa tunnels over 4 1/2 hours in August 1974. Really good coverage of U.P. and Amtrak on the hill. Which brings me to a question: is the trackage the same today as it was in the days when the DD40's ran on the hill?

Here's a map. I hope they do both the main (double track) and the "new line" through Harriman.

The line runs from a few miles east of Cheyenne to a few miles north of Laramie, and includes all track in between (mains 1, 2, and 3). An 11-mile portion of the BNSF Front Range Sub is also included from Cheyenne south toward Denver.

Excellent!

I've never been disappointed by anything Marc has been involved in, either MSTS or RW.

Thanks for all your hard work, Marc!

Thanks, however, most of the credit should go to Derek and company over at RSC. I simply got the ball rolling. :D

I must say that I am really looking forward to this one. A place to let all that awesome huge U.P. power stretch out. Perhaps some nice TOFC runs over the hill dragged by a couple 6900s. Like everyone else I will be keeping an eye on the progress on this route.
