Chester Valley Rush 1935

Started to redo my Chester valley Rush route, starting off from the first part of the metropolis. Now that I've built a station, we have a station. The route will be a fiction route based off of early New York City and other major cities, it's a mainline route meant for faster trains.

The maximum speed limit probably would have been 60 miles per hour for a 1930's steam locomotive, back then there was no such thing as a high speed train.

Here's the first progress.

Before I can do anything else though I have to first build more vintage warehouses and more smaller apartments, as well as some smaller office buildings to fill the first area of the routes, the slums.

Some more progress on the route, been working on the tracks some and still working on the slums district. Once finished it will be a large city route, will look very much like downtown New York City in the early 1930's.

Once finished this will be a very complex route with complex track systems.

Most of the city part will be flat, until you get into the hills. It will actually be a simpler route to run and will be more possible to maintain a higher speed. Later into the route it might even enter a 6 track mainline.

Today's progress on the route so far.

Map of the track system so far. Very soon the track will probably split from a 4 track mainline to a 6 track mainline.

Currently building a 10 story apartment complex for use on the route.

There would certainly be high speed passenger trains in the 1930s. Streamlining was coming in, and passenger steam routinely ran in the 70s and 80s. Some topped 90 or 100 with some frequency--PRR and NYC were known for lengthy bursts of speed on the level lines west of eastern Ohio. Of course track maintenance was cheaper, and while safety was a concern, high speed made money.

Now you wouldn't see 125, but the top 'liners would be doing 75 or 80 for respectable stretches.

OTOH your drag freights would be lucky to hit 40. Redballs might hit 60, especially high-value cargo such as fresh fruit and veggies, or silk, etc.

Some more slow progress on the route. Got the new vintage 10 story apartment complexes into the game and have started placing them. The route is now starting to look more like a city and starting to span out further slowly. Soon I should be able to place down some more track and hopefully do a preview video of it soon, but it's still a long time from being finished.

A car wreck in the city, the police block the road.

P.S, in the early 1930's most police cars were unmarked and were usually white, gray or black. The only thing that's needed now is a firetruck.

I already have a ambulance, but where can you find a smoke emitter at?

Laid out about 3 more miles of track yesterday and the track split from a 4 track mainline to a 7 track mainline.

.....This route is now dead because of fatal error, and the backup wouldn't work.

I have now started a new route called NYC Division 1935, based off of New York, Chicago, and some Boston.
