I've noticed something interesting yesterday: I added an absurd amount of roughness to Bay of Quinte ( I'll explain elsewhere how, if anyone's interested - it wasn't using the route editor at all until I fine tuned some parts ) and set off down the edited route; usual FPS around 30-40, except when the engine gave a huge lurch like it'd dropped into a hole, at that point the game slowed down so much briefly that it looked like it had paused. I wonder how much overhead track roughness is really causing...

I did fraps a bit of it, I'll see if I can find what I'm talking about.

I was testing some of my track evenness last night on my route and I noticed that when I entered a yard the FPS would drop dramatically. I guess it takes track more seriously than buildings and trees.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsKAwjoHRiI now it finally finished processing...

There's a bit of jerkiness due to fraps, but there's at least one spot where the sound even drops out just as the train fell in a hole. Amusing synchronised swaying trees also :)

Unedited other than chopping some bits of the ends, only editing software I have is virtualdub and premiere, and I tend to spend more time arguing with the latter than getting anything done.

In all honesty I think you're better off staying where you are at right now.
Throwing another 6950 at it really isn't going to gain you much.

I went with the two GTX580's for more reasons than just TS2012.
If my decision to to change gfx cards was based only on this one game,
then it would have been a silly decision on my part !DUH!
Sure the in-game performance did improve nicely, but certainly not by $1,050 worth!

Another reason to stick with one 6950 at the moment is that I'm not so sure TS2012
is properly supported in Crossfire yet.

By default it's not an offical SLI game profile yet in any of the recent GeForce drivers.
(I needed to manually add it).

So yeah, for now just stick it out with what you have.
Maybe even turn off TSX mode for the time being.
I know it sucks not having all of the latest features, but I really think you'll enjoy the
game a lot more!

Doh! that's one of my favorite locos: TEM2 (from railroadsim.net), is very challenging to drive (the highest detailed and functional instruments and controls I ever seen in cab) and seems to be prototypical enough, though I don't understand much of real train's physics... TEM2 seems to operate far similar to real engines, at least more realistic than 99% of locos we have around. Could you confirm this, Kali?

It is a ( slightly repainted ) TEM2 with US couplers as a pseudo RSD-2 - or alternatively an imported re-gauged TEM2, whatever you like - you can just see it lurking in the background. I have issues with the field diverts like any other RW engine with them - because in RW diesels field diverts reduce power totally unlike a real engine would - but it's a smashing model otherwise and I can always just remove those, I guess. Also rather challenging as a SD40 replacement for the Highnose BoQ scenario pack, you have to take two goes at a hill in one of them!

Incidentally RW can't seem to find all the route markers anymore, the dispatcher got horribly picky recently.

Hello gang! I am new to the site. I have not played a train sim since MSTS and decided to bite the bullet and while on sale I spent about 50 bucks about two days ago on Steam. So far it has been great, a few hick ups here and there. I have been reading about the tweaks here. The one thing I noticed is that I am getting around 14 to 17 FPS, but for some odd reason it seems too smooth for those FPS. I am an avid MSFS FSX simmer so I know what it takes to sim. I have all my setting up or almost all up and it looks pretty descent and I quite happy about my purchase. I am mostly here to read and learn more about TS2012 and I cannot wait to get more into it! This purchase will bite me in the butt since I have my actual job which requires a lot of studying/reading!

Gtrax has some, and you can find repaints of them here.
