DD40X

I purchased the DD40X today and set off on the "Jacks Big Climb" scenario provided.

Coming out of San Bernadino was all good, applied a minimum reduction and let the loco's work through the yard until clear of the 15mph speed limit. Gradually increasing to Run 8 and releasing the minimum reduction I found that the best I could do was around 10mph. Both ameters were well into the red with around 1300 to 1400 amps loading. Does this sound right?? Perhaps a lack of beta testing?

I found the dynamic braking to be strong on the DD40X. All I have to do is put it in 13% and I'd be stopped in a few seconds.

I to purchased the DD40X today and set off on the "Jacks Big Climb" scenario provided, with a twist. I'm 4.7 miles from the Cajon North Track marker, crossing into the North bound track in front of UP 7703 Manifest stopped and waiting for my
clearance of that junction. Here's the twist, I built a real train consisting of 100 cars and 9 other diesels with the DDx40 leading the pack. I have 1/4 of the train crossed over when UP7703 starts moving (his signal was still red). Guess what
happened next? This was my 3rd attempt at getting up the mountain. Help.

When the stretch limo diesel reaches the siding where its train awaits, there's a stray, normal diesel in the way. It's a stray because it isn't involved in the pick-up order, but is it a trick obstacle to be moved out of the way or a careless error? I moved it out of the way, but soon wished I had taken it with me, since the stretch limo diesel's speed proved practically uncontrollable with such a heavy load while making its way through the yard and its exit tracks and could not manage the long grade that follows. I'll give this engine a big raspberry! (Why isn't there a smilie for that?)

Hi, all. As a couple of you have noticed, the "Big Jack's Climb" scenario really is less than fun going uphill at ~10MPH. I first swapped out the ES44AC #5303 with a second DDX40x (type01) and re-ran the scenario. It was still not sufficient to have a real good run up the grade. Next I added two DD40X type02 locos to the end of the tanker consist. This ran beautifully uphill, even giving me enough leeway to actually exceed the speed limit if I'm not really careful. I was accelerating at 45MPH on a 2.2% grade! Since this scenario ends at the Summit Track I can't speak to its downgrade behavior, but I'm going to try it.
That being said this is an awesome model and I'm going to use it in other scenarios as I go forward.
The other two included scenarios seemed to run just fine.

Just my **!!2cents!!**

Marc

What exactly is the "this" you are talking about? May be many different things... should be the lighting forward?

You see how the red lights shine forward thru the roof of the engine onto that square cover ?

Yep, not only I have noticed that, and other minors things, but also tweaked them with the due permission of Lord Mannu to publish an enhancement pack... I've just hear on my own mental-radio that the DD40X enhanced engine is approaching medium Final Test Station right now, next is approach RWAFL Submition Station in couple hours.

Doc out!

In the Version 1 and 2 locomotives, I believe that these lights should be either off, or dim white. These are Classification lights, designating the train being pulled is an "extra" freight, not a timetabled manifest. I do not know if the 6936 in "todays world" has red lights or not. Class lights were done away with in the mid 1980's, however, locomotives carried them into the 90's.

Lights, schmights! "Powerful beast"? Not in my eyes. Maybe it's my driving, but this stretch-limo-loco won't pull a grade in either of its standard scenarios. !*!grrr!*!

And I say again: !*!grrr!*! Which is what this thing lacks. Sorry to be so negative, let me try again: I positively despise this powerless light show. Ah, well ... if I'm wrong, please tell me how to drive this critter in one of its two standard scenarios.

Hi, Old Prof. The only one I found that did not work in my system is the "Big Jack's Climb". The other Barstow and one in Castle Rock, "Cement Delivery" (there's a total of three actually) seemed to work fine for me. I just made adjustments to Big Jack's because of performance.

My **!!2cents!!** worth
