Shift-tab?

Unread postby OldProf » Thu Feb 23, 2012 5:00 pm

In scenarios I've been running lately, mostly dedicated to shunting/switching activities, I of course often find myself running in reverse toward some destination. Every now and than, I can see that my engine is approaching a red signal -- behind my engine or train, that is. So, I press the shift-tab combination to "ask permission", but I never get a response! I mean absolutely never on any route in any scenario, which leads me to wonder whether this key-press function is still active. It is still listed in the RW2012 Driver's Manual, but ...

Out here passing reds ...

Hey Tom, Dick is right it is NOW CTRL TAB for being in reverse. That happened a while back. It used to be SHIFT TAB for reverse, some one had to tellme about it a few months ago, it might have even been Dick.

There is a clash between Railworks and Steam - where Shift/Tab in Steam brings up a console.
Have you by chance disabled the Steam Shift Tab function, so the Railworks one works?

The setting is buried under your Steam console, <view>, <settings> - it's on the interface tab, it's the checkbox for "Enable Steam Community in-game" - uncheck that box and select OK

....see if that helps?

You can tab in reverse? Had no idea...

BUT we still can't see the signals "behind" the loco if heading in that direction (annoys me) on the F3 display.... I hope that's on the list to get fixed. (I guess locos in Europe only go in one relative direction?)

:-D

wow, didn't see that change. Suppose they maybe hedging their bets on needing "steam in game console" for multiplayer down the track....?

Old Prof - ignore my advice, it's been superseded! **!!bow!!**

You do not have to disable it just change it to shift ~ or something to your liking.

It took me a while to figure out this "console" business: it has something to do with communicating with other players while playing ... I keep that unchecked, but I changed the hotkey anyway.

Thanks for all the recommendations... once again, I missed the boat ... uh ... train.

P.S.: Changing that Steam shift-Tab hot-key did not "release" that key combination for checking the signal behind the train in RW3: that's still Ctrl-Tab.
