inexplicable (so far) failure to run

Unread postby gwgardner » Sat Jan 21, 2012 6:04 pm

I can get to the splash screen for TS2012, but as of this morning no farther. I have verified the local cache twice, deleted all local content and redownloaded, still no luck. I tried disabling Aero, no effect. Tried different resolutions, Windowed mode, no effect.

Any clues what I should look at next? Ran a couple of scenarios just two days ago.

Copy the "steamapps" folder to a different place, then uninstall and reinstall the Steam client. Paste that folder back in and you should be good to go (crosses fingers)

Did you update Adobe reader recently? Some people had this happen when it updated itself. Had to uninstall and reinstall the reader to make it work again.

Also did you change your video board settings or get new drivers that might have?

I started walking back through every change I could possibly have made. I did update adope a couple of days ago, but since then, happened to have cloned a scenario. So starting there, I deleted that cloned scenario, and lo and behold, TS2012 runs again. Weird.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep them in mind next time this happens.

That is weird. It's a strange program in many ways.

I have exctly the same problem. Tried reloading Adobe Reader and no luck. I still can't get pass the Splash screen. I tied "reloading all files", and almost anything else I could try. I've sent several Email to Steam Support but, so far no response. Very strange. Is there another way to Start the program without double clicking the Splash screen?
Appreciate any and all help

Have you considered uninstalling Adobe Reader? You might need something like Revo Uninstaller to do it properly as Windows uninstaller just won't do a good job.
For pdf reading you could try FoxIt Reader or Sumatra.

I can't guarantee that uninstalling Adobe Reader will help with RW, but at least you'd be rid of a problematic program.

I have reinstalled Adobe Reader. I've reinstalled all my files, and still all I get is a Splash Screen. I can access the Package Manager, Settings, Localizaion menus, Tools but, I cannot start the game. I Emailed support two days ago and so far I haven't heard anything except that
"someone" will get in touch with me."
I uset Microsoft Train Simulator for years and never had a problem starting. I would really appreciate some help or words of wisdom, suggetstions, etc.,etc.
Thanks

Not sure what you mean. I click on the "Start" button underneath the splash screen.

Hi Chacal,
Thanks for your attention. I have TS2012 and the Splash screen does not have a "Start" button.
After I "click" the Steam Icon on my Desktop, the program loads Adobe Reader and that program loads the "Splash" screen with a number of "clickable" items. i.e. News, Settings, Package, Package Manager, Tools & Docs, Localizaion, plus the Steam Store. All of those work fine but, I cannot activate the game.

Look in your files for this program and double click it:

Can you go through the exercise of providing screen shots showing each step of your attempted sign in process along with a description of the actions you are taking, so we may have a better idea of what is happening?

I don't have that facility but, the problem is that I can load the Splash screen for TS2012, with all the active urls working except the one that would activate the game when you click anywhere on the suface. I don't know how to make that happen.
