Update For The Wagons Sound Pack

Unread postby krellnut » Tue Dec 27, 2011 10:14 pm

Hi all, hope everyone had a safe and wonderful Christmas. I'm working on a update for my wagon sound pack. There were about 18 wheel sounds which I thought sound, well stupid. So I went out and got more, stupid solved. But the biggest upgrade I'm excited about is the addition of the rail sound; the sound of the rail with a wheel rolling on it. How do you get the sound of the rail, its the sound of a wheel with no flat spots; perfect wheel. So now I've added the rail sound and also made it the dominant sound for the cars. The result is when watching a train pass by, not every car will sound like the wheels have defects. Far more life like. I'm doing all the testing on TS2012, so its compatible. But probably the biggest feature is the addition of a installer with the pack, just make sure the destination is correct, and click to install. Its not quite ready, but should be soon. Look for it, the update is well worth it. Still working on the SD70 sound pack, but I needed a break from it so I started working on the ES sound pack and the wagon pack. But they will all get released sometime. Hope you enjoy the update.

Great!! Your sound packs are incredible. The current version makes such a big difference. An installer is wonderful too for when verify cache becomes necessary. Thanks for sharing all this work! It adds so much to the experience.

!*YAAA*! Can't wait, I love your current wagons sounds... maybe some passengers cars sounds in the WIP?!?! !*drool*!

Use the RW_Tools like I did with your wagons pack hosted in Trains and Drivers Dowload Free Stuff area. Three clicks to install or de-install, and no worries about backing folder/files up etc. If you need a help, just PM me! !*salute*!

Cheers,
Lisboa.

I've been a big freight car sound fan from the start. Many thanks for your fine additions
I still find it hard to believe that RW still has the plain Jane default sounds for freight cars.
I guess to them its a whisper when a freight goes by. Not to me. !!*ok*!!
Note to Noobies!!! Get Krellnuts Wagon sounds.

That's great news, Krellnut. I couldn't contemplate playing without your wagon sounds,
I hope that, even with your installer, you will still supply a list of new files?
That's because I have a script that reinstalls all such default file upgrades after a Steam verify operation, so I'd rather not go through a GUI for that.

I keep all my personal updates (lights, cab views, screens, sounds, couplers, signals lights etc. etc. more than 30 assets or mod assets so far) in three groups, to be used after an eventual Steam updates or verifying operations:
a) a fake Railworks folder with RW_AssetSetup.exe to install all the modified content;
b) a RWP folder to eventually reinstall ou deinstall the packs in groups, instead one by one;
c) a *.bat file with all the other commands not covered by previous folders, like cleaning cache and deleting radio chats, front end shunter looping, *.bak* files in (real) Railworks and RW_Tools folders etc.

It takes no more than 2 mintes, in my slow machine, to have everything clean and back to my personal installed stuffs...

Same here, except that everything is in my batch file for full automation.
I also make modifications of the modifications. For example, for the SD40 wide-nose pack I combine roinuj's repaints, simer4's sounds and Kali's physics.

@b737lvr; Even though you didn't post exactly what I said, I have to admit what you wrote in the cartoon sounds stupid. But what is rail sound really. RSC has wagon sound and rail sound as two different sounds. So I'm assuming that wagon sounds would be wheels with defects on them. Rail sounds would be wheels with no defect on them. At least that's the way I'm looking at it. Plus listening to the default sounds,I would think I'm on the right track.

I'm sure you guys know that the only thing steam will rewrite from my pack is the three XMl's, and you have copies in the volume changes folder. Steam does not touch files not named the same as default. No one will have to reinstall the pack again.

I also have many mods of mods !*roll-laugh*! That's the way to make stuffs more immersive, huh? *!!wink!!*

If I got it right, do you run the RW_AssetSetup.exe from the "*.bat" command file? I tried but didn' get, would be instersting and faster, just two clicks (to launch the bat and close MS-DOS window). How do you do that? Or are you editing copy/xcopy command lines?

I have every mod installed in a shadow asset tree & just copy it with Robocopy in my batch reinstaller. I've not used it in forever anyway though, my entire RW folder is a copy of my mostly-pristine "online" steam one which is the one that gets auto updates. Bit of work every now and then to manually copy changes over, but I can live with that.

I'm just editing copy/xcopy command lines.
Copying files is what the installer exes do anyway.
Here is an example:
Code: Select all
SET rw=I:\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks

REM Wagon sounds by Krellnut
XCOPY Wagons\*.?av %rw%\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\Audio\RailVehicles\Wagons /Y
XCOPY "Wagons\Volume Changes\Step 1\*.*" %rw%\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\Audio\RailVehicles\Wagons /Y

REM Hud mod by Marleyman
XCOPY Hud\*.* %rw%\data\textures\frontend /Y

REM TOFC loads by Doug Smith (Smitty's locomotive shed)
XCOPY TOFC %rw%\assets\RSDL\USwagons01\Railvehicles\Freight\FlatcarRTTX90\ /Y /S

REM SD40-2 CN Wide - new physics by Kali + new textures by roinuj
XCOPY SD402CNW %rw%\Assets\RSC\SD40WnPack01\RailVehicles\Diesel\SD40-2W\ /Y /S
REM need to correct missing coupler and bogies audio in roinuj engine bins, add reference from default.

Sorry Krellnut for hijacking your thread.

Not to worry, its just when you read what you have there, it just doesn't sound like a proper sentence.
