UK Steam Locomotive Enhancement Pack

Unread postby Machinist » Sun Dec 25, 2011 6:08 pm

As a Christmas gift for your enhanced enjoyment in any route and scenarios, here is the brand new "UK Steam Loco Enhancement Pack".

Content - all RSC default (folder Kuju) UK Steam Locomotives:
Black 5 BR Black
Black 5 BR Green
Black 5 BR Rusty
7F BR Black
7F BR Prussian Blue

Features (re-edited according to the new readme file v1.1 uploaded on Dec 30th):
1) Added (ALTHOUGH NOT REALISTIC): Headlights (much brighter), Rearlights, Numbers Display lights.
2) Added Cab Soft Light (at every weather and time of day).
3) New Cab Views, a bit leftwards and backwards: From inside the cab you can now see the track ahead and more of the instruments (both left and right hands), and the firebox (right hand, once you close F4 or use F4 HUD Mod by Marleyman). Also prevents you from catching a cold. And most important: Driving inside cab you feel the cab sway (in head out view not).
4) Three new slightly modified versions of original (by Maestro) standart steam scenarios (in Forest Land Route), now at night as well.
5) One freeroam scenario "Show Case UK Steam Locos Black 5 and 7F" (in Castle Rock Route) to you test and feel the power of our pack.
6) One new slightly modified version of original RSC standart steam scenario "Bruise and Battered" (7F Black, in Bath Green Park to Templecombe Route), now at night as well. And also a litthe change in order to let you drive the "broken" pilot engine (Black 5 Rusty) in the second part of scenario.

BE AWARE OF THIS IMPORTANT REMARK: THE FEATURES OF #1 WERE PREVIOUSLY KNOWN AS NON REALISTIC, the steam headlights (also known as headcodes) don't project lights, they were used only for indication. The purpose of this pack, imbued with the Soul of Christmas at Christmas time, was just provide virtual lighting effects and stimulate real emotional good feelings in the users (a Christmas fantasy). Was never intendend to replicate prototypical lights intensity (if was the case the headlights of pack wouldn't be so much intense as they are, anyway).

So if you don't like projecting lights by headcodes you can alternatively: not install this pack, or install the pack though not turnning headlight (headcode) on, therefore you can play prototypically in the darkness (as usual, and real) though taking the advantages of the other new virtual features (Cab Views and Cablight).

Edited later: Steam Enhancement Pack is now available, thank you Hawk! !*cheers*!

Edited on Dec 30th 10:30am UTC: Was just uploaded a new pack file still named V-1.0 because no change was made in the assets. The new pack was uploaded due to a reviewed text of "Readme (Install Notes)" file, and minor changes in the name of install folders. Users of previous hosted pack (99 so far, thank you) don't need to re-download the pack.

===========================================================

Added later on Dec 27th: Most users don't know how to use the scenario editor, so here is a small pack with slightly modified RSC default UK Black 5 and 7F steam locos scenarios in order to you easily run them at night and take all advantages of the TS2012 headlights and the UK Steam Enhancement Pack.

"UK Steam Scenarios Mod v1" content:
7 Mod Scenarios "at night" in Bath Green Park to Templecombe Route.
1 Mod Scenario "at night" in Seebergbahn Route.

Scenarios Mod Pack is now available, thank you again Hawk! !*cheers*!

While the rest looks good, and thanks for making it free... UK steam engines don't have headlights ( or any other light other than headcodes/taillights, come to think of it ). The oil lights for headcodes barely light your hand up if you stick it in front of them! The fire lighting the cab up might be a nice little touch.

You are welcome, Kali. *!!wink!!*

Once you said that in UK you drive in darkness, I hope the brighter headlight do not scare anyone !*roll-laugh*! (even if is not realistic in real life, though is desirable in virtual life).

Cheers,
Lisboa.

What good is a locomotive with lights with no night scenarios to use them?! !*don-know!* Not only do the RW2 UK steam locos not have lights but also real UK steams, therefore there aren't any scenarios to play with them at night.

Most users don't know how to use the scenario editor, so here is a small pack with slightly modified RSC default UK Black 5 and 7F steam locos scenarios in order to you easily run them at night and take all advantages of the TS2012 headlights and the UK Steam Enhancement Pack.

Enjoy it! !*salute*!

Content:
7 Mod Scenarios "at night" in Bath Green Park to Templecombe Route.
1 Mod Scenario "at night" in Seebergbahn Route.

Edited later: The Scenarios Mod pack is hoted now in RWA Library, the link is in the first message of this thread. !*salute*!

Cheers,
Lisboa.

Hi Chris,

When working in the packs I remembered you saying on here that you like to drive steam locos, and I thought: "I hope Chris will like these packs, being an american is possible..." !*roll-laugh*!

And I also remembered that you like to drive outside (in external views), which must be true with the default cab views of steams (you cannot see the track, all you see are gauges, levers and sidings beside). Well, now you can give a try in cab. That message "And also prevents you to catch a cold" was made for you. *!twisted!* You will be driving in a UK route, not in an Arizona route... take care! *!greengrin!*

Cheers,
Lisboa.

I'm updating the first post of the current thread with the link as well.

Grab your rain and snow coat, especially to drive 7F, and have (head)lighted nighty trips! !*salute*!

nice update - thanks.

Not that I use the UK steamers, just hope Dick Cowan can do something similar with his fleet of steamers. It is a pity they have no night lights at the moment. Really like the soft cab lighting, a nice touch...

UK routes tend to have a lot more signals than US ones - try running the S&D in the dark sometime ( find some weather that's real dark, not that bizarre purple sky default! ). You can just about see the rails, you get this kinda floaty feeling of rushing through nothing with all the glowing signal lights popping up now and then; especially good when it's a large station with some complicated signalling. Admittedly stations need a few oil lamps too...

But yeah, headcode lights don't light up a dern thing :) would be a helpful pack for patching up steamers from outside Europe though. Tried making the in-cab light red/orange fire colour?
