So apparently RailWorks 3 (Train Simulator 2012) got mentioned in a Cracked article, The title of the article being "The 10 Most Insulting Things Video Games Charged Money For"

Seems like the guy missed the point of the whole thing IMHO.

Funny stuff. I doubt he missed the point. It is a humor site. I can imagine outside of the hobby, yes most might find over $1, 000 worth of DLC ridiculous. Free advertising though. :D

Maybe humor, but a very disgusting humor for my taste. !*not-ok*!

Ehh, to each his own poison. When the guys I know say how ridiculous it is to spend money on video games, I reply that sitting in the woods at 5 in the morn with $10k worth of hunting equipment, or $2200 for a ticket to see their favorite loser football team is quite ludicrous to me.

Cracked is a great site. Love their humor!

A lot of what they mention in their "article" is blatant lies. I realize they're trying to be "funny". Ha. Ha. *!rolleyes!*
Just goes to show you what little they actually really know about RailWorks.

Well you gotta admit, RailWorks is an apparent commercial success. I can't tell you how many times my friends on Steam talked about the latest RailWorks DLC, and they don't even play RailWorks. No doubt that this article will pique someone's interest enough to check out RailWorks, and maybe even get a few more people involved in the hobby.

Yep. RailWorks keeps growing, and so is the RSC team too from what I gather. Things keep looking-up for us RailWorks Users.

And, their article could be good in some aspects if it peaks some people's interest and they decide to check out RailWorks because of it.
But at the same time, perhaps some people reading that article would become completely misinformed as well and steer-clear of RailWorks whereas before they could have been interested.

I don't mind a bit of humor,I don't appreciate their crude humor and lies about RailWorks though.
To quote a few things they say;

"a full driving simulation for people who dream of a career so boring that real drivers fall asleep".

Ummm, okay, perhaps boring for some people I'd imagine (yes, it's not your typical shoot-em-up or racer game), but obviously a lot of people find it entertaining and fun too, and the strength of the RailWorks Community and how well RailWorks is doing is proof of that. And of course, what's entertaining to some can be boring for others. Not everyone has the same interests obviously, but we can still respect others even if they don't share your same interests.
--

"The ridiculous bit is that this is a game about simulating trains and you have to buy the trains."

Totally false. As we all know here you don't "have to" buy anything extra. The base program already comes with lots of trains, routes and scenarios to enjoy, there's tons of freeware out there to be had, and people can even make their own content with the editor that comes with it. Yes, there's lots of DLC available to choose from, and that's a good thing for people that want to add more variety or might be interested in some extras. But none of the DLC is a required "have to".
--
"Railworks has already released over a thousand dollars worth of extra material (and now we've destroyed the economy by using the word "worth")."

Perhaps not of any "worth" to them, but, for some of us that do decide get some of the DLC, the many hours of enjoyment value we get from it is quite worth is to us.
Which raises the point again that none of the DLC "has to" be bought, it's an optional choice up to each User if they want to buy some of the extras or not.
And of course they're overlooking that it takes Developers hundred, sometimes thousands, of hours of hard work to develop Addons and DLC.
--
"Imagine a life where you'd pay to do this for fun and WAIT TAKE THE GUN OUT OF YOUR MOUTH."
"If you actually press the green button it sends a natural selection squad to your house."
"Hell, it'd be cheaper to hire a dozen prostitutes to cure you of your interest in trainspotting."
"This P42DC Genesis costs more than a blow job."

Did they really need to make such a crude comments? Then again, it's "Cracked", known for "crude humor" I guess. *!rolleyes!*
It's obvious their "article" is just to bash and insult certain games (and hinting at insulting the people who decide to play said games too) they think are boring or a rip-off without being neutral, balanced or knowing the facts.

I'll be honest, apart from the actual misinformation (i.e. the part about having to buy the trains) I actually thought the part about Railworks was funny. I see where they're coming from about it being boring; if I wasn't a railfan I'd probably think RW was the most boring game ever made. We might be entertained by accurate simulation of train driving, but i'd bet most people aren't. And I do think some of the DLC is overpriced for what it is, but that gets me dangerously close to rant territory so I won't go into that any further.

Take it for what it is folks - humor. Your opinion of "crude" might not seem so to someone else. The "lies" part is pretty much tongue-n-cheek, and it is meant to invoke a hair bristling reaction for it's readers. It's not going to scare anyone off, as RW has had bad press via word-of-mouth for years and is still growing. Cracked has lampooned everything from the President to the Kitchen Sink, so the fact that the game is on their radar, along with more well-known titles, says something about it's popularity. The Devil doesn't go after sinners, he picks on the Saints.

Personally, I find all train simulators - MSTS, Railworks, and Trainz - to be overpriced and boring. I'm a foamer, not an engineer. I find building routes and waiting for the holiday DLC sales much more interesting than actually driving the train.

As for the BJ vs the P42, i'm going to email that guy cause i'm curious where he he finds that good of a bargain!
