TS2012 PS-1 40/50ft Boxcars: 24 Variations!

Unread postby GreatNortherner » Sun Nov 06, 2011 3:33 pm

Hi,

The old 40' and 50' PS-1 boxcar packs are now also available in "TS 2012 specs".

While I was at it updating the model, I also rearranged some parts. There is ony one base model now - a 'car shell' (body, roof, trucks) - and there are several seperate parts that you can add as "child objects" via the BIN files, allowing much more flexibility when building reskins, while at the same time reducing the file size quite nicely.

You can now choose from a total of 24 configurations:
40-footers:
- plug door, double door, 6' and 9' youngstown and superior doors -- each with "classic" roofwalk or chopped roofwalk
50-footers:
- plug door, double door (only one version, 6+9'), youngstown door, superior door -- each with "classic" roofwalk, chopped roofwalk, or chopped roofwalk and half ladders

The texture mapping on the car and roof walk parts has not been changed, but there are new textures for the chid object doors.

Temporary download links (they have also been uploaded to the file libraries):

Have fun with these!

Cheers!

Having some issues with the roof on the 40'; I was trying to shade the protrusions a little, but the mapping layer in the psd doesn't seem to correspond to the roof itself ( I suspect it's the 50ft one ). Could we possibly get a layer for the 40ft car, pretty please? :)

OK, now on to the 40 footers. I've gone through the older 40 and 50 foot cars, and all seem to look fine in TS 2012, so I don't think I'll move them on to the new models.

WIP, numbers need to be black, and some minor details left.

This is a specialty car, in addition to the special colors, one of the warn labels is about "For ???? Only" do any of you CNW fans know what the car's dedicated use would be?

hey mike, do you want to add a slight gloss to your repaints, right now i feel they look like "plastic models"... !*don-know!*

a slight gloss like on your earlyer repaints make it look like it is made of steel but without it it dosen't feel like it has a texture and....kinda like MSTS if you know what i mean?

Trust me they look too glossy (ie: patchy) if he turns up the alpha. He and I are using about 19%~25% alpha so the sun can still bounce off them.

Who are they? Don't recognize that reporting mark. !*roll-laugh*! If you will note, some of the above cars are BN predecessors. I've been focusing on the early 60's and 70's roads right now so there's a variety of freight that would look right for Donner.

CNR's right. Too plastic looking. Not that they aren't fine models, but us dirty guys, well, we like 'em dirty. !*salute*!

I like the way that GN sets the alpha on his stuff, is it possible you make 2 sets one as you are now, and one with the regular alpha? please?
