A couple of suggestions to try, that in many cases can resolve some problems with RailWorks:

From your Steam-client, go to your games Library, right-click on RailWorks (Train Simulator 2012), select Properties, Local Files, then Verify integrity of game-cache.. this can take a little while depending on connection speed, but this will help to ensure you don't have any missing or corrupt files with your installation, and if so will attempt to reacquire them. Sometimes this can take more than one pass to catch everything, until it returns with a message like "No missing files found".

After that, from the initial RailWorks launch window, and before clicking the Start button, first click on the Tools & Docs tab, then click on the Clear Cache button. After a moment it should complete, then Start RailWorks as normal, and hopefully it will work for you.
--

If you're still having problems after that, post back and perhaps other Users here can offer other suggestions.
Good luck.

Didn't fix the prob. I am thinking its the .Net 4.0. but I have uninstalled and Reinstalled it about 3 times an still the same prob. But I have noticed that if I change the language to English there is an error that comes up that says "Could not load file or assembly '0 bytes loaded from System, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with incorrect format." Don't understand why it would need Microsoft.Net Framework 4.0 Just to play the game.

Try this; Go to your folder where you have RailWorks installed, find the "Install" folder there. You should find redistributable files in that folder. Run and install them one at a time.

You might want to also set your Steam-Client and RailWorks executables to have Administrator level privileges.

See if something of that resolves the issues.

I also have a text file of my system info if that will help
I'm just not sure how to attach that file to this message.

It's very upsetting to pay for the game, then have it NOT start.

p.s. - I have also tried changing how my video card controller controls aspects of gameplay.

Thanks in advance for ANY help in this regard.

Hi, Tooley, *&!welcome!&* First thing is to verify the game files. Open Steam, go to Library, right click on TS2012, choose Properties> Local Files tab> Verify. You may have to do that several times until Steam says no missing files.

Can you post the specs of your system, what CPU, how much RAM, what video card, what version of Windows. This will help us to sort things out for you.

Specs are:

i3 550 Processor
6gb RAM
Nvidia Ge-Force Graphics card (Can't remember which one, I think it was 420??)

My Windows 7 Home Premium is 64 bit by the way and whenever I keep verifying my files it just says: files succesfully validated or something. *!sad!*

If Steam is installed under c:\program files (x86) then you may have to run as adminsitrator.

If this is an "index out of range error" there is a hotfix here which may help:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2642947 (Providing that your .NET framework hasn't been corrupted)
As Chacal said:
If Steam is installed under c:\program files (x86) then you may have to run as adminsitrator

plus if UAC is running you may to give full permissions to "EVERYONE" for the Steam, Steam Apps, Railworks folders.
You could also right click on Steam.exe, railworks.exe and railproc32.exe selecte properties\security and ensure EVERYONE has full rights ie if nothing else works.

Also, I'm not sure which hotfix I would need as there are 2 for different files.

UAC stands for User Account Control. This is the first crap I turn off with Win 7. Open Control Panel, go to User Accounts, then find on the left, "Change User Account Settings", click on that, and turn the darn thing to off. Don't need that crap if you are the only one using that PC.

Now, right click on the Desktop icon for RW, choose "run as administrator". Let's see if that works for you.

Tooley
My apologies I hadn't noticed that the hotfix was for certain versions of Win 7 (Pro and Ult) so it may not apply to you. It may be worth contacting your local MS support and tell them that you are getting the "index" error to see what they suggest. It sounds more like a Windows issue than a RW3 issues from what you describe.
