You do realize that you are now one of my most favorite persons in the whole world? *!!wink!!*

Sooooo... Does the route have single aspect target signals?

On a sidbar on Railsimulator's site, RSAdam mentions a conversation with RailworksAmerica regarding the up coming Southern Pacific Roster for Donner Pass, but i can't find anything mentioned here. Am I missing something?

Maybe they didn't like them, maybe they did? but they had them starting in 1968. Check out this U30C and U33C at Roseville, CA. If they were in Roseville, there is a good chance they went over the hill.

For anything Espee, I recommend Richard Percy's web site http://espee.railfan.net/espee.html I talked with Richard a number of times, although it's been a few years, and found he is very knowledgeable about every Southern Pacific. One neat thing about his website is he has things organized by year, which would help RSC determine what units were on the property during the time period they are modeling the route.

Hi g_nash,
Did the SD45X's have the elephant ears? I know the rear of the long hood was flat like the SDP45's, but did not contain the steam generating equipment.

Image

I know some of the GE's had attachments that also looked like elephant ears.

Yes, the Espee was an interesting railroad and what really made the units stand out were all of the lights, that some folks referred to as the "light show" :D

IIRC, the original "elephant ear" design was applied to standard SD45 car bodies.

Yep, before SP and EMD got together and made the tunnel motors:

Only the GP40X, SD45, and SD45X's had these applied. GE's had those plates on the handrails.

Think the rounded ears looked better:

http://espee.railfan.net/espee.html is my bible so to speak, since SP is my prototype in HO scale (along with the 'Grande).

Didnt see it posted anywhere, so I'll post what I found on Railsimulator.com's facebook page as a comment on their second WIP Donner photo:

This is WiP, we might have anything on the rails just to test clearances etc. so don't assume that these images show the final pack contents. Though I am told there will be a tunnel motor included...

A tunnel motor... Hmm. Which one could it be. The "snoot" 123" nose SD40T-2, the 88" nose SD40T-2, the SD45T-2. Not even mentioning the rebuilds. *!lol!* !*hp*!

I also see in their newest screenies, the reflective tape is well, reflective. Tho, so is all the warning decals / signs and the GE decal under the cab windows.

Just think how much money they would make on a SP Payware locomotive pack alone

A 88" 40 T-2 would be a good guess since they got a 40 shell already ..... or maybe they made a error on the page and they got a U50 or a KM instead *!lol!*
