GTrax and RW Tools

Unread postby mikeg1250 » Wed Sep 28, 2011 2:22 pm

I am continually getting a run time 75 error. I double check that all railworks file are read/write and I'm still getting the error. Any ideas?

UPDATE: Well it looks like its the file. I guess that all GTrax files are some how protected and can not be edited....can someone confirm this?

Having edited the G-Trax Berkshire before I tried it just now. I was able to open .bin, .geopcdx, and .tgpcdx files with RWTools. I didn't try editing anything, I just opened them. I assume you downloaded the latest update of RWT?

Yes I have the latest RW tools. The problem does not seem to be with opening the file but with saving my changes.

There is a known limitation in Serz.exe (which RWTools uses) which prevents certain GEO files from compiling. There are numerous posts about this on UKTrainSim.

Is there anyway to correct this or work around it? I just wanted to create some repaints for personal use and see if I correct the cab problem on the Berk.

Ok, I editd the geopcdx for the berk and tried to save; got a "Serz has stopped working" error. I edited the .bin with no problem; didn't try the texture file. Was able to edit geopcdx for other products with no problem. I'll send a link to this thread to Mike and Rick; maybe they can check on it tonight (is A.M. in Australia right now).

Well what wasn't working last night is now working...not sure what happened. But I was able to edit the Cab Camera file and I'm now behind the backhead instead of in the boiler !*YAAA*!

I did have a problem previously however with repainting the Kanawha (trying to "yellow up" the lettering) where the serz would stop working. Any thoughts?

Hey I want out of the boiler, too! Hmmm... guess we'd get in trouble for exchanging a shape file, huh?..... hmmm... ACTUALLY... no! It just so happens that Rick protected this model in other ways so sharing the geopcdx file is ok. If you'll notice, there's one included in the Kanawha repaint package; he told me that is the way he designed it.

In any case, if you could post the section of code here that you changed, I'd love to try fixing mine. That situation of being "in the wall" makes it impossible for me to drive.

The camera is just a blueprint, so there's no problems exchanging that anyway. I'd rather like new cab cams too ( for the Northern as well ). The cab *shape* is a geo, but you shouldn' t need to share that anyway.

Its really easy to adjust the cab view for the Berk. I'll post how in the Problems Thread.

Just to clarify, RW_Tools uses Serz.exe to uncompress then compress all files which it handles. This includes .bin, .geopcdx and .tgpcdx files.

Due to a limitation in Serz.exe although all the above files open OK, .tgpcdx files which are 2048*2048 pixels and many of the .geopcdx files for locomotives (particularly those produced by RSC) will not re-compress with Serz.exe - This has been the case since the original Rail Simulator when Serz.exe would not recompress the Black 5 .geopcdx file.

Users who do need to re-skin locos with the extra large .tgpcdx files can use the program RSBinTool.exe which is available on uktrainsim.com - This program uses a proprietary serz.dll file written by its author which does not have the size limitations mentioned above (I don't know if it works with the large .geopcdx files, but it certainly will resave the .tgpcdx files)

RSBintool only deals with texture files. The author is certainly in a position to be able to expand it, but right now I very much doubt he has the time...

RSBintool only works on texture files?! I didn't know that (that explains why I it wouldn't do what I wanted, lol). From the name, one would think it works on .bin files. *!lol!*
