AntonL, make sure you have your scenery slider all the way up some assests will not show up if you have it set to low.

Hope that helps

This build, 6.5j, is supposed to address the broken coupler issue. I couldn't get them to break, but someone else here has reported they still break. I am checking on what scenario he's running so I can verify.
Also there was supposed to be some possibility of performance improvement (no specifics given) and I believe I saw a 2-3 fps increase. In light of that, I enabled DOF and Bloom which puts all my settings at max and ON for a single-monitor setup. My fps had increased from 27-30 to 29-32; with DOF and Bloom it dropped to ~25 fps (DOF dropped it; adding Bloom had no additional effect). BUT, for the first time on 2012, I started noticing "stutter". It wasn't exactly like the old RW2 stutter, it was more of a "jumpiness"... like leaping forward every few frames.
Interestingly, I got better frame rates in the sunshine than in the shade (am testing with Horseshoe Curve - Altoona in Summer). !*don-know!*
So I next reduced Shadow Detail to Medium (from Highest). FPS fluctuation increased but no visible change in the animation. Then I reduced Shadow Detail to Low (from Medium) and fps shot up to around 40fps, but fps fluctuation increased dramatically; saw glimpses of fps in the 20's up through 50's with occasional peak of 60 and low of 14. BUT the jumpiness/stutter was GONE. And the low detail shadows weren't so bad; the smooth 40fps was so nice I didn't notice the missing detail in tree-branch shadows.
I recall some testing experiences in my past where we could run a new system at slow/reasonable speed and it was ok, but when the "throttle was opened up", the software would behave much worse. It makes me wonder if RSC is trying to get everything as good/smooth as possible before turning on multi-core which might currently amplify any misbehavior into the intolerable realm. One step at a time.

Tori I am noticing the same thing. It seems where the frame rate drops is durning momments wehre the sim is trying to produce large amounts of trees on distant mountains ahead. I noticed that there will be a bare spot on the hill side, the frame rate will drop for a few seconds creating some shuttering, then as soon as the trees are populated bang the frame rate shoots right back up.

I will say that when I'm not having the problem mentioned above the frame rates are about 10+ better than they were before the update.

My Dell XPS 400 - its old I know- 5 years going on 6... Some time ago I upgraded from 2-3GB Ram. I was considering spending around $25.00 to upgrade this old workhorse to its max 4GB. I run XP on it. I am certain it would help other applications I run. In RW 2012 I run the game in Legacy mode. The question is would the upgrade help it some? !*don-know!*

Blastpop, unless you have 64 bit XP, Windows will only see 3.2Gb of RAM.

Legacy mode, AFAIK, is when you turn off TSX.

Thanks Chris- I am running the media center edition which is only a 32 bit app.

That answers that one. Just saved $25.00 !

Another update in the works.

Posted on Facebook:
Bug Fix Update
we're in final stages of fixing a number of the key bugs that you've reported - we're testing the fixes tonight and (providing the testing goes well) we will release them tomorrow night.

The three most important fixes are:
1. Couplings breaking in scenarios. This is preventing a number of scenarios from being completed successfully. We have been working to make the simulatio...n of coupling forces more realistic in TS2012, but this has exposed some set-up issues in a number of pieces of DLC. We hope to resolve these issues tomorrow
2. Fuel. Fuel is erroneously being set artificially low in some scenarios. These situations will be corrected
3. Train positioning. Trains are sitting slightly below the tracks in places. These problems will be fixed.

Once again, we are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

We'll provide a full list of the changes with the update.

!*brav*! !*brav*!

this fix alone will go a long way to making RW3 more playable

I just posted this on ukts, I mentioned it in brief before but posting again to show examples.. You need to google the FXAA injector as I'm not linking to it.

If you want better AA without having to resort to SSAA 2X2

Try using the FXAA injector (google it). It lets you run down at SSAA 1X2 but have it look 3x better than SSAA 2x2 since the FXAA post process will be applied on top of it with no performance draw. In turn looks better, with some performance given back since you don't have to run at SSAA 2x2. You can also get the FXAA effect with no AA on at all. Has no effect for any of the MLAA + MSAA presets.

SSAA 1x2

FXAA + SSAA 1x2

You'll notice the moire effect drastically cut, bridge is clean, rail isn't jaggy anymore. :)

Things are slowly getting better. Since this update, my oldest laptop will run RW3, just without TSX. Before, it wouldn't even open the program without an error and crash.

Been using FXAA for a few days it is better than nothing. I have to overclock my card to use any SSAA, just need like 10 more fps and I would be good.

Reinstalling Bay of Quinten fixt the missing track. Thats OK.
Still no route startscreens. As update on my settings: TSX is on.
All settings high detail and scenery setting is 10 and can't go higher.

Is it me but I no longer have dirty windows. The dirty effect is now more of a moire type pattern.
