My CPU usage is at 84 percent with the new game engine running. Turn it off and it drops back down to 26. Something is amiss here. With the new game engine on I get 10 fps in areas where the scenery is dense. I used to get between 26 and 30.
Also, The anti-aliasing is not very good.
The word?..The word is no. I am, therefore, going anyway..

You're right styckx, I was getting performance that didn't really seem right for my system (core i7 950 @ 4.0 ghz, 6gb DDR3, GTX 470) especially in certain scenarios - load up "Full up" in Cajon Pass to see what I mean. I was playing around with the multicore tick box but it wasn't making a difference, I saw the same CPU usage as you posted (100% on 0-5). Then I tried unticking the multicore box, closing RW completely, then reloaded it and sure enough CPU usage dropped WAYYY back down and gained me back about 10fps like you said (which makes all the difference when you are looking at 14fps vs. 24fps)

so to put it simply: don't mess with the "multicore" checkbox under the debug options, leave it unchecked!

edit: Also, for a kicker, smack into a cut of cars at 9+mph in the cabview. You get quite the jolt, as you might expect *!embar*!

I wonder something to do with graphics?? Can wait till someone else know what is the problem with this? Might have to contact RailWorks Support Team about this.

Thank you,

John

I'm getting the same error. Guess I will wait and see if someone finds a solution tomorrow.

What type of graphics card do you have?

Yep.. So my only real complaint ATM is the terrible AA implementation. They get that straightened out, improve performance a bit and I'm golden. The change over went flawless for me though.

Thank you RSC

Jerry,I wouldnt worry too much. I just ran your Missionary scenario. I have a quad core AMD ,all sliders set to max. Average frames were about 40,as high as 70. Dropped to 17 for one second in a crossing the bridge over the cars in the siding. Your route still looks fantastic. There are shadow anomalys on rolling stock. Gtrax locos have the shadows making big loops off the drivers. And some other rolling stock has the wheels doing the same thing. Apparently shadow meshes will have to be reworked? I did not make any core changes,it seems like intel users are having SOME trouble. So far....FANTASTIC!

To change the subject from hardware based graphics performance to something else that may be to early to tell.

Has their been any change in AI or signal behavior? Noticed a signal that seemed to be visible from a farther distance than usual, and it didn't look like one of mine.

First impressions

Unread postby KCJones » Fri Sep 23, 2011 3:27 am

I got up at 6 am (GMT) and after a coffee set about some railway (sim) modelling. I couldn't use RW as it was updating, so I waited with eager anticipation!!!!
My very first impression of the new sim itself, not the introductary parts, were a) Much much lower frame rates even on the low detail setting and b) I can't see a headlight beam on the F7.

What is the opimum computer configuration suggested now???? I am running an Intel quad with 4GB of RAM and a NVIDIA GEforce 9400 GT

I must admit to being disappointed as I can't revert to the old sim which gave a much better frame rate. Juddering locos is not very realistic and do NOT enhance the experience.

Sorry to be negative guys but these are "first" impressions and upgrading my computer is not as simple as Steam's automatic upgrade!!!!!

Just checked all scenarios we have made so far, and seems that they are running under Trainsimulator 2012 without problems, some minor changes had to be done though. couldn´s sleep last night seeing all our scenarios beeing crashed down. Only thing I can tell from the Scenario Editor, except of the three lshort-ists you can select (didn´t do that yet) there are no visible changes. I wonder how to add an animated message like in the videos from the Pennsy Route. !*don-know!*
Let´s see what the next days will bring, as I can see from now, it is only cosmetics that has been added (and higher PC specs to get along with the simulator !*not-ok*! .)

Checked some of the older freeware routes, and everything seems fine. (Bay of Quinte works well). But in the NEC I didn´t see any real changes, a missing streetbridge is now there, for example. I heard a statement that the NEC will be the first route to add the new features but I am wondering when?

I would have had no problem to wait a month or two longer and get an update that includes not only one or two default locos that where updated but most of the RSC AddOns.

Now we have even less standard rolling stock to use (if you want the new features) and that´s a sad thing.
But only time will tell... !*cheers*!

Just my **!!2cents!!** !

Changes in AI behaviour? i didn´t see any changes. *!question!* Can tell more this evening when finishing another scenario.
Greetings from the old world!

Dick, im not trying to push hardware on you, but i had a 9400gt under your same setup, and it couldn't keep up with RW2! Have a bargain next gen 450 GTS and difference is night and day.

Tired of this waiting crap! Just called the Wife, told her to fire up the mainframe and let it update. Thank God for a woman who understands trains!

I read over at UKTS that one person was having a problem in that RW3 couldn't find the .NET Framework 4 profile. Does this mean that RW3 now requires .NET Framework 4?
