Unread postby thecanadianrail » Mon Aug 29, 2011 11:08 pm

Pros:

1. beautifully detailed superliners, and locos
2. very nice custom sounds for all things
3. reflections in the windows of the superliner looks realistic
4. working alerter on a US diesel loco

Cons:

1. horn start & end loop are a bit choppy
2. in cab signaling dosen't work (not on the route i tryed)
3. DB sound is kinda quiet but better than nothing

i am enjoying this alot!

Yes they did a great job indeed. I'm releasing an update soon that will include:

New Horn/Bell Sounds
New Engine Sounds
GE P40DC Renumbering

If I knew how to convert some of the Skins to RW I would have added a few to the pack, but hey no big deal. Manuu Is a great person to work with as well as Rick look for future projects.

Yeah, it seems like a nice add-on so far. The P42 is one of my favorite trains of all time. I always liked the futuristic look of it. *!greengrin!*

I do wish the loco had the glass reflections (externally) of the Superliners though. Is this possible to edit in the texture files? I would like the glass to match with the Superliners if possible.

It seems like GTrax add-ons don't have any external glass textures. *!sad!*

Or maybe they could do a update on the glass?

According to the manual, In Cab signaling will only work on the NEC.

... to show up in scenarios? Choose DTM as developer.

About Genesis ...
Very good package for this price. Nice 3D modelling ... especially surprising was large choice of passanger views available. Now only problem is that RW don't let us to switch between those cabviews (exactly like in MSTS before bin-patch). Cab is nicely detailed and first time US loco has working displays implemented. Okay functionality is bit limited but at least first attempt to make them working. Seems like cab sound is not loud enough (engine sound). It's still powerful locomotive and should sound accordingly. Sound fading effects are not the best but I know how hard it is to achive realistic sound in RW. Too early to say something about physics. For me train braking seems overforced. Anyway ... good addition to US rolling stock collection in RW.
Sorry I'm not american so I'd like to ask - Is the new US route (one which is coming with RW 3) suitable for Genesis and Superliner? As much as I know at least one train leaded by Genesis is running over Cajon Pass.

I put two of them together and moved from cab to cab without problems (Ctrl +).

Hey, nice to see someone from Estonia here. !!*ok*!!

MrMurphy wrote:especially surprising was large choice of passanger views available. Now only problem is that RW don't let us to switch between those cabviews.

You can switch between the passenger views by pressing Ctrl and +. You can also use the arrow symbol in the F4 menu.

MrMurphy wrote:Seems like cab sound is not loud enough (engine sound). It's still powerful locomotive and should sound accordingly.

I think the reason is that the cab is well-isolated. In-cab sounds of RSC's payware freight locos are a bit too loud in my opinion. *!!wink!!*

The new route you mean is probably Norfolk Southern's Mountain Division, but set in the 50's when the Pennsylvania Railroad was the operator.
So no, at that time there were no Genesises, even no Amtrak. But today an Amtrak train runs on this route, now owned by Norfolk Southern.
The Genesis Pack already includes 2 scenarios for Cajon Pass.

The alerter is missing from the F4 HUD. The stupid thing started to go off on me, and I was hunting around the locomotive to try and find the button to press to silence it. The thing had done an emergency stop before I found it !*hp*! . Maybe the 'Q' key would have worked like it does on British locos - didn't try that.

There was something odd about the thing the first time I tried to drive it. I was in the yard, released the brakes, set the reverser into forward and inched up the throttle. And nothing happened. Inched up the throttle a bit more - still nothing. Got the thing up to 100% and still nothing. The sounds suggested the engine at full throttle. I don't remember what I had to do to get the thing to finally move - I think I turned off the throttle, fiddled with the reverser, and a few other things, and *finally* the thing started to move. I still don't know what it was that was wrong that the thing - I wonder if there is some other weirdness with the F4 HUD as that's how I commonly operate the locos.
