Having A Problem Getting Steam To Load

Unread postby TheKman » Thu Sep 12, 2024 11:10 pm

Has anyone been having issues with Steam not opening? I get a black background with the Steam symbol. It's trying to load, but that little circle is just going round and round. 15 minutes and nothing. I have read a few items online that Steam has been having issues since early part of the evening with a major outage around 6 PM EST. Tried a computer restart, clearing computer and internet cache, resetting my router, virus scans. Nothing. A friend says he has the same problem. Also read a update from earlier today jacked things up. Last Time I used the sim was this morning and had no issues across the board.

Working okay here in Alaska. Try a different download region. Open Steam, top left corner click on Steam, settings, Downloads, and temporally change your download region and test.
Just an old Alaska guy trying to live in an insane world. Degree in life, Masters in common sense.

I can't even do that! Here's a screenshot of what I get. Last attempt it just sat there for 30 minutes before I gave up.

I even tired a restore point and that didn't work. Short of uninstalling/reinstalling Steam I don't know where to go from here.... I really don't want to do a uninstall/reinstall. I got my backups, but it means over half a day to get back up and running again if I go this route.

Made one more attempt before calling it a night. Now it says it did a update, but I still get the same screen that I enclosed a screen shot of.

You bring up an interesting point. Can Steam be uninstalled without affecting (uninstalling) RailWorks (TSC)? Will uninstalling Steam automatically uninstall TSC?

From all that I have read, it will. My Backup files are the same as if you backed up the steamapps folder which is suggested you do. So your uninstalling, loading the sim back in from your libary, and adding all you assets routes, evething back in again. Maybe I'm misunderstnding the whole process. I got over 275 GB of stuff related to the sim and thankfully it's the only Steam game I got. But it still takes a huge amount of time to get back in bussiness.

That's the same one I looked at Buzz. I'm down to that last item Uninstall and Reinstall Steam on Your Computer.

I don't think I have to worry about "To preserve your game progress, sync your saved game progress with Steam Cloud" Could care less about that unless if affects the asssets, content, and source folders which I don't think it will.

Now, weirdly, if I install Steam on a different drive it will load. So it's not the computer and a check disc of the drive it won't load from says all is fine. But on the different drive it treats it like a whole new install which of course it what it is. I can't do a simple transfer of the files from the other drive. Nothing shows up when you fire up the sim. The routes don't show and neither will assets. Steam is seeing it as a whole different account on a different drive and therefore under the license agreement won't transfer stuff. That's what I read. Don't know if that makes sense to you.......

" I can't do a simple transfer of the files from the other drive."

Why is that?

I'm not a memebr of pro boards so I couldn't look at that thread.

Anyhow this morning I cranked up the sim and it did that Steam update and messed stuff up. 1. I an in online mode. I ALWAYS have it in offline mode exactly for this reason. Updates screw it up Now idea how that happened. 2. I can't go to offline mode at all. Won't do it and no messages as to why. It's like it's pemanetly disabled. 3, I have this stupid music that I can't find how to turn off 4. One of the startup screens has a missing texture image though it doesn't interfere with things. Can us users fix all this or are we at the mercy of DTG while they take there sweet time to address this?
