To answer the original question:
Interesting and challenging scenarios!

Driving a passenger train according to a timetable on a clear line is boring.
Add some emergency situations, line repairs, equipment break-downs, stuck local freight.
Add some freight and MOW scenarios where the challenge is to avoid disrupting passenger traffic.
Over the hill and gathering speed

Maybe something that made you a bit more into U.S. railroading then before you took on this giant task? I know I took a lot away studying "The UK way", curious about the other way around. :)
Hiya, Thanks for the question.

We have learnt a lot about US signalling thats for sure, and we've found it to be much more complicated that first thought. Most difficult to get our heads around has been seemingly conflicting messages like Slow Approach and Approach Slow, or Stop and Proceed.

Its all been fun though, and the NEC is only the first of several US routes we intend to develop. I think tackling the NEC first has been a bold and difficult step, but should put us on a good footing for our other plans.

Could you please include a manual that explains what ALL possible signals mean? The manual with the base game only has a very brief description, and though it says what green over red (UP signals) means, it does not say what red over green means.

Here are the NEC signals. If every one is used in the route is unknown (most likely yes): http://www.railroadsignals.us/rulebooks ... spects.pdf

The only problem is that doesn't say what the signals actually mean.

What is the difference between Approach Slow and Slow Approach?

The UK signals in game are quite clear, double yellow means next signal is yellow. Yellow means next is red, red means stop, flashing means switches are set for diverging route.

I found this at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Amer ... ad_signals

Approach Slow
Approach at Speed - When a train needs to be told to slow down due to dynamic conditions an "Approach Speed" aspect is used. These inform the engineer to slow to a prescribed speed by the next signal. The most common reason for this is that the train is to take a diverging, or non-Normal speed route at the next interlocking. Signals of this type include Approach Medium, Approach Limited, Approach Slow and Approach Diverging. These signals are typically displayed on the distant signal to an interlocking, but can sometimes be used with short signal blocks in place of Advance Approach.

Slow Approach
Diverge to Stop - Same as above only the train can expect to stop at the signal after the interlocking. These signals include Medium Approach, Slow Approach and Diverging Approach.

Hiya,

A specific signal guide is included with the NEC, along with detailed driving instructions including about the In-Cab signal display.

Epicenter was in Virginia (5.8) and was felt as far as Ontario. East Coast U.S. is very dense hard rock so the shake travels very far. Was a decent rolling shaking.. Enough to scare the poop out of me.

I was in the L.A. quake in '71. It was a 6.5 and I lived about 50 miles from the epicenter. Talk about getting the poop scared out of ya'. Not to mention getting thrown out of bed.
