Oh..GG!

Unread postby hobo1960 » Wed Jan 25, 2023 8:15 pm

Recently, I've been wondering why there aren't more repaints of the GG1s for the game. I've only found an Amtrak repaint and two basic PC files.

So, after a few beverages and a chat with my brother, I took a break from my many projects and prepped a basic texture set to see what I could do. Turns out, I think I can get a good approximation for my needs.
I've got some great resources for images so I think I'll add this loco to my growing pile on my workbench.

I still have to figure out how to get rid of the PRR lettering squares (barely visible in pics - on nose and sides of CR repaint).

Here's what I came up with today:

1. Tuscan repaint of the classic 5-Stripe
2. CR 4800 in blue

More coming I think. ;)

Love these. Glad someone is making one in proper conrail blue!

Also, if I may chime in an idea..

Thank you for encouragement. I've added the bicentennial to my list. That will be a challenge but fun if successful.

Meanwhile, I've gotten more of the texture map understood and have improved the earlier paints and added a couple more. ;)

Alternative PC colors. Both were used but this white-only scheme was more common.

Thank you.

My brother just sent me some pics of an unusual paint scheme, so after breakfast I created another repaint.

Some time in the late 1970's, Amtrak painted ex-PC 4921 with special lettering promoting US Savings Bonds.
It was originally numbered 921 for Amtrak, but was later renumbered to 4921 when AEM7's arrived.

Just thought this was an interesting scheme.

Cheers,

One more...

NJDOT [New Jersey Department of Transportation] received thirteen GG1's from Conrail. The units were numbered 4872-4884 and operated on the North Jersey Coast Line between New York City and South Amboy. They were painted black with the exception of the 4880 and 4883 which retained the PRR DGLE with gold striping and numbers. The locomotives were lettered "NJ DEPT OF TRANS OWNER" underneath the engine number at the forward end on each side. In June of 1981, NJDOT painted 4877 for a special "farewell' series of trips, before retiring the GG1's permanently -- guess I'll have to paint that too!

Anyway, here's a simple repaint for the NJDOT.
