Penn Central Retro Pack

Unread postby TheR62Fan » Tue May 17, 2022 4:41 pm

Never would've thought I'd see the day a Penn Central product is on the Steam Store.

https://live.dovetailgames.com/live/tra ... n-railroad

Most of it seems to be alright, the usual upgrades will be in order of course, favorite part has to be the backdated FL9s, those'll be great to mess around with, probably repaint too.

I would've preferred perhaps that instead of an SD35 or FA (very few actually made it to PC paint), maybe more common power like an SD40 or SD45 would've fit better, or even a U-boat (U30 or U33) to spice things up a little.

Otherwise, cool stuff!

As someone who cannot get Erie Lackawanna in the Steam Store, I am appalled. This is totally bogus. This is the railroad that destroyed seven other North East railroads. Absolutely astounding. Who the heck is a PC fan?

Someone help me out and find a rant emojii!

Over the years, there has been considerable interest develop in Penn Central. Yes, I "grew up" during the Penn Central era, and I witnessed and well remember the downside. I also recall a 20,000-mile railroad with nearly 90 types of diesel and electric motive power from five builders that could be pretty darn fascinating. This pack is officially licensed and there is nothing "bogus" about it -- and certainly it has no relevance to whatever issue exists about E-L licensing.

Gary I have spoken to you about this.
I am actually heartbroken. For 2 years DTG has has the U34CH with I personally spent $1800 to bring into game.
I spent 7 years building a route to honor this game and the Erie Lackawanna.... and now this.

Actually I'm really mad, but I am an adult with perspective.
This just blows me away.

This is the most grievous insult I can imagine.

Oh and carry on.

Well, this won't get me any friends here, but I'm actually excited for this. While I know that the Penn Central represents a really bad time in the history of American railroading, there's a lot of history there that fascinates me. Plus I think it's cool they had such a broad livery with many first generation diesels still earning revenue.

Dude you grew up during the Penn Central Era? I rode in the fireman's chair on the Erie Lackawanna IN an Erie Lackawanna locomotive AND my Dad's pay check Said Erie freaking Lackawanna on it. Cut me some slack!

Minerman: I'm not sure how my mere mention of growing up in the PC era somehow negatively reflected on your family connection with the E-L. If you have issues with DTG and/or have a distinct dislike for the Penn Central, all fine and good, entirely your choice. But treating the introduction of a new product - which brings a new railroad to TS via Steam - as "appalling," as "bogus," and as some kind of personal affront is stretching things. Penn Central occupies a significant place in railroad history and has a following (as exemplified by the active Penn Central Railroad Historical Society with 8,000+ FB likes), etc. There's nothing more to this than bringing some previously unavailable railroad content to TS and Steam and which we anticipate a number of people may enjoy.

No worries Elphaba I was merely relaying my bonafides as someone who grew up in the same era. As I am keenly aware of how disparaging remarks go concerning new releases and yours in particular, I appreciate your guidance in moderating my tone. And with that, I wish your endeavor great success. If its OK with everyone else, I'll go cry in my beer over in the Bergen thread.

Good day sir.

By the way and on a personal note do not take my comments in a disparaging way against you or your appreciation of High Iron's work. We all get to enjoy this game and appreciate the dedication of others to bring new things to life here. It's cool getting new stuff!

Carry on.

In the meantime coming soon will be the DTM F3 in Erie livery to calm minerman down a bit.

Overall doesn't look too bad, although I've got a couple comments about some of the colors; most obviously, the FA and FB appear to be different shades of black. The shade of green on the coaches also is too yellow, it should be closer in shade to the cabooses. I found #4a6745 to be a pretty decent representation from a project of mine that never saw the light of day.

If you need additional photos, I'd be happy to send over some scans from the Penn Central Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment which is pretty much the definitive source for stuff like this.
