Clinchfield route-very heavy freight scenario (Elkhorn-Boody) broken?

Unread postby HighBypass » Fri Apr 02, 2021 8:52 am

There appears to be a red signal (and another freight train!) preventing me from proceeding beyond Berta Junction. I successfully got the train moving and got up to line speed eventually !*salute*! but then was stopped by a red at Berta. Despite waiting a good 15 minutes or so and keeping an eye on the route map. Nothing was happening. The train at Collco loader was not moving. I assumed it wanted to take the other track at Berta. Ieven backed up to clear Rex siding in case it wanted to go to Elkhorn, but no joy. Any ideas please? **!!2cents!!** Thanks.

In my case, sometimes when a scenario has a fault just running it again solves the issue. If you want to be sure play it in the editor and watch if that train moves there. If it does then it's maybe a one time thing.

I did not know that you could run scenarios with the world editor active. Then again I'm a total noob when it comes to learning about the Editor and TS Tools.. I haven't even swapped out any locomotives or stock yet.

Yeah, not in the world editor but in the scenario editor. In the TS menu go to build-->scenarios and there you choose the route (CRR) and the scenario, then you click on edit.
Once you are in the scenario don't do anything that changes something that would require a further save, just click on the little play icon (not the big one, as that one will actually run the scenario and we don't want that now) and select a speed of reproduction. You'll see your scenario as a movie and you can go to the map and see in detail how is everything suposed to be. If everything is ok, the issue won't repeat again so surely the fault was a one time thing and you'll be able to play the scenario from the top with no problem. If the scenario is effectively broken then we'll see how to proceed further but I have the feeling that's just a one time thing (fingers crossed!).
PS: I can't get in the sim until tonight so maybe I missed some step or didn't write the exact same menu items names, I hope I was clear enough *!lol!*

Great explanation, Nacho, thank you! I watched the movie (no popcorn to eat though!:) )The freight train at Collco set off at 16:49 and did indeed take the track heading east. By the time "my" train arrived at Berta, the Collco train was gone - so the movie scenario appears to work fine !!*ok*!! HOWEVER I've not had chance to re-run the scenario myself as yet. I did have a save game which I loaded up to check the in game time - I was running late. The Collco train never moved at all. !*not-ok*! Would I be so late so as not to trigger the Collco train? !*don-know!*

I don't know if the time has something to do with it, as far as I know from the scenarios I have made the only thing that triggers AIs are their time of departure; I am not a very experienced scenario creator myself though, so maybe someone else could help as here.
About these 'one time only' scenario problems I find them very annoying because sometimes I had been driving like an hour or so and it's very tedious to do it all over again not knowing if the thing is going to get solved by itself. Well, hope in your case it does! But certainly, it always does *!!wink!!*

What is the actual name of the scenario as I would like to try it. Is that the one where you fill up coal wagons? The second part of the scenario I cannot complete as I cannot see the wagon to fill it as it is night time.

You can also trigger AI trains by distance from the player train by using TS Tools. Some scenario authors prefer using distance to trigger AI trains rather than having to work out exact start times for AI traffic.
If it's a long scenario it pays to save progress at intervals , say every 15 min, if you can remember.
Do you know about using Command Line Instructions which can be useful for checking scenarios? For example "Enableasynckeys" lets you play the scenario at up to 5x the speed. and "follow ai train" allows you to follow a player train, in the outside camera view. driven as an AI train ( or follow any other AI train).

Yeah, bad time for loading black coal into a black train. I had to dark all the room in order to fill those wagons.

Wow those are very interesting features, I'll give them a try. I'm still figuring out what RWTools can do, is a great program.
About saving, I do it a lot but when a scenario has those 'one time' faults savings save the fault too !*hp*!.

Aha, you didn't say that it was a WS scenario in any of your posts unless I'm blind. :D

Taig3r is the creator

Had a look at this scenario on the Workshop. I notice it has been there for almost a year , only has 3 * rating, and there are no comments or discussion.
Just a suggestion but It might be useful to post a comment on the WS so the creator can address your problem and improve the scenario if necessary.

First of all, did it work in a re-run? If it didn't then yes you should probably contact the creator.
