Powder River Basin

Discussion about RailWorks route design.

Next phase is running a bit late. I'm running through the scenarios that will be included with the route to make sure there are no problems, especially with the ones that were recently created by me. Speaking of which, I have created a scenario the requires the Searchlight Simulations AC4400 but if you don't have that then I have included a copy of the scenario that uses default stock. So if you see a scenario that has an SS prefix then that's an indication that one or more of the SS/JR locos is needed.

Route will be released with 12 free roams by gtrtroger, 3 standard by BoostedFridge and 3 Standard by me (2 actually, one is just a copy of the SS scenario that uses default stock)

So, hopefully by or on the weekend I'll have put the route and asset files up on mediafire. As a reminder, the only extra download you will need is RCAP from the file library.

See page 45 for latest release! Don't use these links.

Powder River Basin - Work in progress

Dependencies:

3DTrains Tehachapi Pass (Majority of the route is from this dependency)
Soldier Summit
Sherman Hill
Steven's Pass

and

RCAP - Railworks Community Asset Project v2.09.29.13 - Available in the file library

Route File: *REMOVED*

Assets File: *REMOVED*

ReadMe File: *REMOVED*

Doesn't matter in which order you install the rwp files.

Read the PRBInfo.pdf for a bit more detail on what has been added and the scenarios included with the route.

Thanks for adding the PDF, it helps. I do have a quick question: I installed the versions of Colin's scenarios that are here in the file library (The Worm, Outsider, and Unassisted). Should I uninstall them before I install the new route files, or would it overwrite them. And, in the event that I have to uninstall TS21 and reinstall, I assume I just need to install these two new files instead of the current ones I have from last year?

They will be overwritten but having said that, it might be best if you deleted all the old scenarios before installing the new route file. The old scenarios might not work given how much the track has changed. My old free roam test scenarios were garbage anyway, gtrtroger's are much better.

If you need to re-install then yes, the only files you need are the two new ones. You can delete the files from last year.

Hi Tom -- Thought to let you know that your update version of this route, Powder River Basin is enjoyable to run. You sure did a good job with this route and enjoy running one of the scenario this evening.

Good Job Tom

Happy Easter to everyone here in this forum.

Cheers,

John

Uncompressed it's a bit over 4 gigs for the route of which about 95% of that size is just the terrain.

Thanks cnbalasub, glad you are enjoying it. I'll be working on scenery for the most part from here on out but there are still areas that will need more track markers and buried signals. While working on the Donkey Creek to Cordero scenario I had to add 6 or 7 new track markers in the space of 2 miles at Donkey Creek just to get the player consist and the AI to play nice in the first 10 minutes of the scenario. I'm sure I'll find many more areas like that as I create more scenarios. Lots of work ahead but I'm having fun.

Hey Tom,
Where do I get the BNSF1-4 repaints of the Kuju coal hopper? I have all the prerequisites listed in the readme but the scenarios crash with broken consist errors and TS-Tools and my Kuju folder shows I'm missing these hoppers. I tried to search for them here but didn't see anything about the repaints.

Thank you,
John

As I write this, I'm 90 minutes in to using the utilities application to install the new PRBAssets file. I got the usual "These Assets are already installed" popup and the list of assets that were. I clicked through and then I get another odd popup with the white X in a red circle, which mentioned a 20ft Chassis asset from DanPMeyer that was already installed (I assume from a previous asset installation) and so I clicked ok to install. That was 90 minutes ago. Has anyone encountered a similar situation. I am running the utilities as an administrator (which I admit, I sometimes don't do) and am wondering if I did something wrong, or if there's anything I should do?

1st Question: Do you have 7z Compression Tool installed?

If so,

1 - Abort the "utilities application" install.
2 - Open (double-click) the PRBAssets.rwp file
3 - Drag the Assetss folder to your .../Railworks directory
4 - Click "yes" to overwrite....

If not - "GET IT" https://www.7-zip.org/download.html

For BNSF Hoppers (for a limited time only - whatever that is....): https://www.dropbox.com/s/rnswxtv4ulwri ... s.rwp?dl=0

Have Fun.....

P.S. If you are trying to run the "LGIL 158 Scenarios" - Don't. Those scenarios are obsolete and have been removed from the File Library.

For the record, I didn't know you could unzip a rwp file (I'm using WinRAR). And while it worked, I'm getting, currently, tons of "this file is already here" and there all .bin files. It's not giving me the option to overwrite, so I'm guessing checking the "do this for all current files" box and clicking skip would work? Or should I use WinRAR again and extract the rwp assets folder to my RW folder and overwrite that way?

If it’s saying “files already exist”, 1) Open another explorer window and check and make sure - do a search in the Assets folder; and 2) if it’s there, I’d just select the “do this for all..” option and skip them....

Having used both Winrar and 7z I have to say that I find 7z far superior. Both are freeware.

Can you give me examples as to why 7z is the better option?
I do admit, that I went an bought a license for WinRAR after the trial expired and applied to my tower already, but I might switch if I know ways 7z is better.
