Shay problem

Unread postby ilovenxstage » Sun Jul 31, 2011 6:04 pm

I posted this in the general forum, but it was suggested that I also post here. I just bought the three truck Shay, and whenever I try to run it, the program locks up right after I start moving the locomotive. It does it in both the cabview and outside the locomotive. Sometimes the "something bad has happened" message will pop up, other times it just freezes and doesn't do anything. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

The usual recommendation for the first thing to try if something goes bad like this is to first try clearing the blueprint cache, then if that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall the problem addon.

I just tried that, and it worked for about five minutes, but I was backing the locomotive into a siding, and right when I changed direction and started moving forward, it locked up again.

Unfortunately I have had the same problem with both Shays from early on :( - With my rig I get the impression it has something to do with the pistons - happens most often if the camera is outside and gets too close to them.

Sadly had to stop using them as it was happening every time within about a couple of minutes - and yes, I have been using RW from the start and plenty long enough to know all that you should have to do to minimise SBHH.

Might be that my rig, with only 2 gig of ram and a 4 or 5 year old processor is just not up to scratch - graphics card is good though, with 500mb of ram.

Would be good to have a solution, but I don't think Dick was able to replicate the problem.

Sorry guys, as Rod says I cant reproduce the problem on my system.
I have and Intel quad CPU 2.4 GHz 4GB RAM and a Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT graphics card.
Any suggestions would be gladly received to get you guys on the road again.

Dick. !!**sorry**!!

Hi,
As I posted when this thread was in the General Forum, I too on occasion have this issue - always when in the F3 outside view, usually at a fairly constant set distance from the train. I thought it something to do with sound, as the sound starts to splutter, then stops and then it locks up. Doesnt happen all that often - I am just mindful of the amount of time spent outdoors admiring the view :D

Cheers

I also get the "sputtering" sound.
