A few quick questions

Unread postby mote454 » Mon Jul 25, 2011 5:17 pm

Hi everyone, just a few questions I can't seem to find the answer for. When route building and you have your assets count on the bottom left of the screen for the sector the camera is over. What is a reasonable amount to have for that sector that won't cause a slowdown when running the game? So far I've been in the 700's and no slowdown yet, but I haven't placed autos, people or much clutter yet either! Just wondering what asset number I should try and keep it under.

2nd, and I'm sure I missed this when reading the manual a few times, but how do I place a route/location marker in the right flyout window, so that I can jump around the map fast. can't seem to figure this out.

Last one, sometimes I have a hard time selecting lofts( I used to call them splines), mainly roads and fences after I placed them. Doesn't seem to matter if I'm on the (house) or the (track) button on the top flyout, I simply can't select them to either delete, or move them after I placed them down. Mostly this is after I load the route back up and want to make some changes, so the undo button isn't available. Is their some little trick I'm missing?

Thanks for any help/ tips you might have!

1000 items, but this is a rule of thumb. Also see my post where I dig deep into finding out why my count was above 400 on empty tiles:

You can read about it here...

However, this post is not complete. I learned a lot (and I have to rewrite most of the post) more while exploring this XML and I have not put it down in the post yet. For example I stated in the draft that you cannot place the files in your provider/product folder... but you can (and I have). I also got the SeriesMarkersFile to work, but only through using RWTools.

Not sure about this one. I have had a problem selecting but after some camera shifting I have always been able to grab them.

AFAIK, the general thought is that 1000 assets per tile is best, 2000 is sometimes ok, and more than that is pushing it. However, it depends some on the assets themselves. If they are high-poly-count models keep the count low; lots and lots of low-poly-count models can be used more liberally. We have a tile on the COA with a count of 5,000, but it performs equally to another with 1,000... just different types of objects used.

Routemarkers are created at the beginning of the routebuilding process and is a little bit of work. See the Help menu in RWTools for a good tutorial on the required steps. (Btw, RWTools is a must-have!) An alternative way to jump around your route is through the 2D map screen. Ctrl+Click on the spot you want to go to, then click the arrow in the Navigation flyout at the top of the screen. Return to the 3D view and you'll be at the new location (it may take a minute for scenery to fill in and you might be at a different elevation than ground level)

I often have to get level with or even underneath a loft to select it. If there is foliage in the way, it can be nearly impossible.

Thanks to both of you PapaXpress and Toripony, I definitly have more reading to do! I like your blog their Papaxpress, its bookmarked! And the Ctrl click I didn't know about in the 2d map, that will help alot, as the xml stuff is alittle above my head right now lol. And I never thought to go under the loft to select it, will give that a try.

Thanks again!
