ALCo Line Acquires AC60CW's

Unread postby EngineerJohn » Sun Sep 08, 2019 7:29 pm

News has been out about the Western New York & Pennsylvania acquiring GE AC60CW's since May. Now the paint is starting to show. These engines are presumably going to supplement or replace the larger MLW's on the coal trains that straddle the NY-PA state line. It's interesting to see an old ALCo paint scheme applied to a more modern locomotive. Going to be an odd combination on the railroad having these giants mixed in with the old centuries.

Did you ever notice the layout of the ALCo's in the top two pictures? Now look at the GE in the bottom picture and think about GE's all the way back to the Super 7's. It is almost as if ALCO was on to something.........

Are they retaining the HDL engine? It looks like they have dual exhaust stacks.

But yes some have HDLs still. My friend in mechanical has a video somewhere of load testing one a few years back.

Here's a video someone posted of the ac60cw. I don't think they're going to be derated. These are all ex CSX anyway, not UP.

They already were 4400 back when CSX still had them.

As Kevin said, that's from my friend. It's just a software derate.
