This Small Slope Route has fantastic and broad scenery...enough to keep you visually occupied for quite some time. It’s short enough to be enjoyed if you don’t have a lot of time, and it’s long enough to not be overwhelming. There is ample line industry for switching opportunities.
That said, as I looked at this route I couldn’t help but be convinced that it was out of time...that is, most of the scenery reminded me of 1920-30’s upstate Washington...specifically, the GN Kettle Falls Branch! But the vehicles, roads and other more modern accessories were drowning out what there was of that incredibly good scenery.
So, my recommendations to Zawal, if allowed to do so, would be to reset the time frame of the route to the late 1920’s Steam Era; change the switches to manual; add water towers, sanding towers, coal facilities to the mainline; change the paved roads to gravel and dirt; then, add one or two narrow gauge lumber sidings at strategic points a lot the route that reach back into the surrounding mountains via switchbacks for lumber and ore operations that can interchange with the mainline.
In the meantime, I’m going to build me some scenarios using Great Northerner’s Steam Era Rolling Stock with Switcher and Mikado locomotives and have some fun with this great little Route.... Thanks Zawal.
Well, it took me a while to answer you, but why not.
I have a little bit of spare time and I like steam locomotives.
G-trax has done a great job, and it would be a shame if I didn’t use his beautiful "toys" more often.
So to make you happy, I’ve got back to work and I have to say that your idea of using the Small Slope as a line for the 30’s is great.
