And Buzz showed up in Ho-Ho-kus to boot! I gotta ask, what kind of scenery do you like? You paint so much and well if your gonna run the Bergen ... I'm sure we got some places that are too your liking.

LuisaA - are you sayin that you rarely play TS2019 but when you do .... if so ... holy smokes! I was thinking about your scenario. I don't see why you cant put them up here on good ol' RWA. What's done on the route is done and the track isn't changing. I say go for it. You said
I rarely saw a route so identical to real life
. I looked at the picture, and see whats there so ... I'll explain. It goes along with the other Easter eggs in the route ... The highway configuration is from 1974 - i did it on purpose. The ramps to 287 are from the 2000's, they were intentionally omitted. The route has a number of these 'time-warp' configurations .... I am sending out memory signals to the olden. For fun, and it is fun, do that to other places in the route, randomly and then come back here. I think someone ... Fanrailer, who has an awesome youtube page, said something to the effect that he appreciated someone taking TS to this kind of level and showing what could be done. Well, we got Tomcat, RudiJaeger, danssg, et44c4 and xxuntitledxx and a bunch of other guys doing some wild stuff with this game too. ( I dont do enough to acknowledge them - I see what your doing guys!) The mixing of the eras is my 'thing' or 'hook' if you will. LuisaA, I invite you to compare the route to a real life picture ... anywhere. It will blow your mind!

I sure wouldn't mind a love fest and pictures of what you think the COOLEST places are on the Bergen on our way out the door of New York Division - Part Deux!

Lastly, what to do for the title for thread three?

New York Division-Bergen Line - The Dark Knight
New York Division-Bergen Line - Three's Company
New York Division-Bergen Line - Children of Dune
New York Division-Bergen Line - 3 Shades of Gray
New York Division-Bergen Line - Are we there yet?

Since these threads go about 2 years per --- this would likely be the last one. I am sure its going to be an epic tale. *!greengrin!*

Carry on!

I thought about publishing somewhere before the workshop, but after adding a few AI train I got the "Access Violation" error code and I haven't been able to open it anymore. And that's one of the reason I don't play TS2019 like I did before.

Back to the topic name, how about:

Been running the New York Division a lot recently. It's a shame nobody's done a proper set of Stillwell coaches, although the VNHR Osgood-Bradleys would be a good stand in - perhaps one of our talented repainters could try that? In the meantime, I've been running some of the EL's trains as well as something a little more modern. With regards to a title, perhaps the New York Division-Bergen Line - Revenge of the Erie?

HX Draw, the NY 32 bridge, and Moodna Viaduct are masterclasses of how to do scenery in a route. The New York Division, I have to say, is probably one of if not the best route for TS at the moment, payware or freeware. Hats off to you, Minerman, and good luck on the final miles of track. !*salute*!

Here we are again for another edition of the Wednesday Route Update and Report. This quite possibly is the last for the "Part Deux" thread. As I await the arrival of the ATF and the Gaming Commission to close us down ... lets get to it!

Friday Route Update Status (by George Thorogood and the Destroyers)
( X ) B-B-B-Baaaad, Bad to the Bone
( ) Boogie Chillin

After one Bourbon, one Scotch and one Beer, it looks like he means were not having an update this Friday. Which makes sense as were still plopping houses down around Silver Lake. We are moving West and that is a good thing. I would have to say the next logical update would be at Otisville. Like 8 weeks from now. That just the way it is, we do towns, or tricky areas ... it can take 2 weeks to go a mile. So, far I like what I see, we have track, embankment and super el up to the Eastern edge of Otisville platform. I wish I had more acute elevation, track map says 2.5 degrees. I have whatever is default on Sherman Hill. But the track is good and smooth and has the sound effects configured. ( I hope you guys hear the bridge, underpass and tunnel sounds (Bergen Tunnels are loud!) )

I am loving the pictures and the name suggestions ... Buzz's is killen me with "love me tender" geez am I really that transparent? *!lol!* Keep em coming and tongue in cheek is good too!
20190731201615_1.jpg

Tonight's picture is of Silver Lake. To the left is Middletown, to the right is Scotchtown, bottom left is Orange Plaza and bottom right is NY 17 and the Middletown Motel on the hill. To the West is our destination. I put the 1km grids up so you can discern distance, its pretty wide. All the depth pays off in winter runs as you know.
I will bug my contact re the Stillwells, they would be cool to have. In meantime go here http://www.golden-age-rails.com/packsrw/vnh_el.html and use the heavyweights the paint job is the same for the 4 axel commuters.

I think I covered all the bases. And, really, thanks guys.

Good evening, and a happy Wednesday to all. Welcome to this week's edition of the Wednesday Route Update Report. Let's get it on!

Friday Route Update Status:

(X) Miles to go before I sleep
( ) The time is nigh!

Well no update is to be expected. My next milestone is 6 miles away. I am pleased to report I am rounding the corner past Middletown Station and populating out to beyond Silver Lake. Once its done, you will see why I lamenting doing it. Some much scenery work that can only be seen out of the train, but needs to be there. And annoying silly little commercial buildings to boot. On the good side, I am thinking about the full mile of Otisville Tunnel. My daydreaming is actually my mental preparation for the road ahead. I solve most of my technical issues on my commutes to and from work.

We had a bit of a diversion in the route work the past 3 days. What happens from time to time, is I find some detail in a photo or map and decide to put in the route. This case is a bit different as it was inspired by a post from LuisaA. Back on page 98 LuisaA was noting the fidelity to the real Suffern with virtual Suffern. I had pointed out the highways were circa 1974. Well sort of. The highway, route 287, was left unfinished as I was grappling what to do with the highway configuration over Suffern yard. There is a flyover that today goes from RT 87 West to carry traffic to RT 287 South. You can see it in LuisaA's picture. This went in some where around 1994. Since I play fast and loose with what year it is (for a reason) this was a messed up one. I do stick to the year 2001 ( no freedom tower, WTC is up) and I change the years back in isolated areas ( Carlton Hill 1969, NJ Tower 1968, Harlem 1968, Ford Plant 1980 and so on). Suffern is pretty obvious and close to the Ford Plant and I have this 'stub" at the end of RT 287. So I spent a few days finally completing the pre 1994 interchange between RT 17, RT 287 and RT 87.

This will blend in with the 1980 scenery of the Mahwah Ford Plant. So, if LuisaA hadn't mentioned it. This might have gone unfinished. While I was in Suffern I tuned the scenery in Suffern.

The whole route is always a work in process. Many days I warm up for a build session and detail something to get me in the groove to build. Also, the amount of time in the route is also the research. I rigorously reivew where I am working to ensure that the year I am trying to portray is there - building to building and street by street. And sometimes, I get in trouble blending more than two time periods as in Suffern.

The last shot of the evening is from BJ tower in East Rutherford. This shows off some of the night lighting. Do note that not only do I place telephone poles EXACTLY where they exist but the lights also corresponds to the poles. What this images shows is that I saw where the lights were on BJ Tower and placed them. So this night time shot might be what it looked light at night 40 or 50 years ago. How cool is that?

Ran the line recently from Campbell to Middletown, great work so far. Have been having hard time doing full runs cause game crashes or lags A LOT.
Anyways, why not head to Binghamton next for the project? !DUH!

New York Division-Bergen Line - Part XXVII "The Reckoning"
Post by minerman 146 » Fri Aug 09, 2029 5:50 pm

Well we crossed into Ohio today with our usual Super EL. Ohio is gonna look great with the New ALCO C424s that DTG made. The chug, the thick black smoke and all that ALCO goodness is just do die for. As you know, I took awhile to get out of Pennsylvania, just like it did when we did Buffalo and it took foh-evah to do that too. But we're still going strong and S O M E D A Y ... i will finish this route. ( I will also hunt down like a dog anyone who refers to a certain city in Cook County) One more thing.. I am old now ... very old ... !!jabber!!
