The cab sounds work perfectly for me, I have no idea why they aren't working for you.

Now, if you are feeling a little adventurous, there is a freeware sound upgrade with all new recorded sounds from SteamSoundSupreme for the default Kuju Black 5. Download and install those and then mod the bin to point to the new sounds. (I can upload my modded bin if there is any interest) Not a big difference, but noticeable after such a long time use of the average default sounds. !!*ok*!!

Looking at all the goodies available at SSS - engine sounds, carriage sounds, routes and rollingstock, it would be great if somebody could get a set of recordings of a "generic" large US steam loco and then put out sound updates with minor tweaks per different loco. Would if I could, but I am 10,000 miles away *!sad!*

!*cheers*!

The sounds on the Hudsons are perfect to me, they don't need to be swapped with the black 5 sounds, on my side the sounds work perfectly and sound awesome.

There are so many nuances and imperfections in the sound of a steam locomotive getting a consistent loop is very difficult. A horn is 1 consistent tone like playing a note on a trumpet. Steam is not like that and is much more unforgiving in audio editors.

What sounds perfect to one may not sound perfect to another. How many people here can say they were alive during the time of the Hudsons and know what those locomotives sounded like, not many I am sure? Even so, with time, things change, so what those people may have heard in the past may not be what they think the sound should be now. Oh yes, we have videos and sound recordings, but those can also be interpreted differently by everyone, and equipment quality has a lot to do with the quality of the sound recordings. So, who is correct, who is the expert? How many of you here are actually trained to be sound experts, very few I am sure? The sounds of the Hudsons are as they are, its freeware, you have the choice to change the sounds as you wish. The creator isn't required to change the sound. But, he has made many attempts to make the changes, and may have not been successful with the sounds. I know he grows wary of hearing about the sounds, any real positive solutions to change the sound would be appreciated.

Chiming in to say, first, thank you to the creators of this loco! The modeling and sounds are excellent, especially for a freeware product. Thank you for providing this wonderful steam engine at no cost to the community, I'm already greatly enjoying running it up and down the virtual New Haven.

I missed the boat on the initial release but downloaded the updated file to get started. When my run initialized, I was missing most sounds from the cabview. I went into the editor and enabled the assets in DSGDDR, but still lacked the sounds. I then downloaded ozinoz's uploaded patch on page 1 of this thread and dropped it into the Hudson folders. After that, the sounds worked perfectly. So thank you to the loco creators, and thank you to ozinoz for great work all around.

It was a job trying to find that reference, especially for the cab interior since it was almost non-existent.

I wonder if the unstreamlined version might pass for an ATSF 4-6-4...

Perhaps it could with a new cab model, but it wouldn't be an easy feat and I doubt that Darlan would want to look into it at this time.

And a slight modification of the smokebox.

I kind of doubt it as the boiler and firebox are quite a bit different. The firebox is bigger and the boiler has a flat look to it at the smokebox, and looks a bit bigger. And then there is the cab, as mentioned.

I believe Logan came through on that one about the cab images also, nice find on this Logan.

Much of this would be considerable design changes, also, as mentioned before, DSGDDR has moved on from the NYC products.
