GPU Configuration.

After many years I have been wondering I have my video components set up properly. My system specs are in my signature. I am running my TS on my #1 monitor in borderless that is connected to The discrete graphics card (GTX 1060 - 1920x1080), my second monitor is running the extended desktop off of my onboard graphics (1920x1080). All game settings are maximized except AA ( FXAA + 3 x 2 SSAA - Anisotropic x 4) and I am achieving 30-60 fps for all routes with the exception of some drops in dense areas of assets or AI. Card has not been overclocked. I have upped the CPU and memory frequency. Others are reporting higher frame rates with less powerful GPUs. Just trying to see if there is some tweaks that need to be done. Thanks in advance.

Why aren't you running both monitors right off the card?

My thoughts were that using the the obd for my desktop it would free up the card for the game. Am I incorrect in this assumption?

Your 1060 should be fine. I was just running 3 monitors on a GTX 980 with no problems with TS.

You never really want to use onboard graphics, just your card. And definitely don't mix.

You can then use the nVidia Control Panel to set the monitors to your liking.

I don't have the fastest or most powerful computer using a 1060 I get around 55 to 60 fps out in the country and generally 40+ in towns other than downtown Minerman route or something like that. I'm running two monitors off of my card. Would be happy to share settings.

If you would please, if only to verify that my settings are set within reason. Most of the information s contained in my signature. Any more information that you need just ask. My thoughts are to upgrade to a GTX 2060 with 8 GB of VRAM.

I have a RTX 2070 and I use MSAA maximum settings are turned on & I get 45 fps in dense areas.

However this is an old game so no one can expect much.
I get 60 fps in FarCry5 & TSW at 2k resolution.

After hours of though, research and input from knowledgeable sources I am upgrading video cards. Well the GTX 1060 desktop, RTX 2070 desktop and my GTX 1080 mobile have about 4.4 Tflops, 7.5 Tflops and 9.1 Tflops of performance respectively. There is definitely a law of diminishing returns with TS in general. I typically put a 30fps frame limit on so that it runs both my CPU & GPU cooler in temps (less fan noise and power use) and produces less jarring frame stutters when tile loading. Freight trains typically are moving relatively slowly in this game (especially on steep mountainous routes), so 30fps is plenty fast enough most of the time...... although I do sometimes bump the limiter to 60fps when running high speed passenger trains.

I've said it a million times on here and will say it again.... load up an 50-80 car freight train in QD starting in Delta Yard on the Stevens Pass route with all graphics setting maxed and it will bring even a RTX 2080ti to it's knees. Why this particular yard is so demanding on hardware is a mystery to me, but it's definitely the go to for a system stress test in TS for sure.

Let us know what your performance numbers are in comparison to your GTX 1060. TS 64-bit definitely improved framerates for me over the 32-bit version.

Installed and spent 4 hours comparing to previously benchmarked runs with identical consists. The result is that in most cases the GTX 1060 6gb card performed as well if not better than the RTX 2070 8gb for TS 2019 64 bit. All sliders to maximum and using RWEnhancer at FXAA + 2 x 3 SSAA. Minimum frame rates were 12 for the 2070 and 18 for the 1060 maxim frame rates were close to the same with the 2070 slightly better. The card had some surface damage so a valid reason to return the card for a refund. Since this is the only game that I play except solitaire I would not recommend this upgrade to anyone in my position. The price of $483. does not justify this upgrade for me.

Ok I don't have RWEnhancer installed but I maxed all sliders out, used the same 2x3 SSAA setting as you as well as all boxes checked on the last settings page at 1080P resolution with a 70 car train and got 21fps in Delta Yard with my GTX 1080 mobile. The differences in frame rate are going to be minimal between graphics cards in this particular test location. You should see a wider gap in performance between the GTX 1060 and RTX 2070 on less demanding routes and/or locations. I'll have to assume that you did that considering you tested for 4 hours.

I would use a 1x2 SSAA setting. It lets you still get some SSAA while getting as much frame rate as possible under it. But Delta Yard is the exception to the rule because it was still 21fps when I dropped it down to 1x2 SSAA in that case. But in most cases in other locations, that should improve things for sure.

Now in TSW (should you ever buy it) I suspect you will see a bigger improvement with the RTX 2070 over the GTX 1060 than in TS2019. Had we known before hand that you were only going to be playing TS2019 and not any other big gaming titles with it, I would have told you not to buy the RTX 2070 in the first place. Cuz the $483 price was only going to come close to worth buying if it was also used for games beyond train simulators. Otherwise it's a complete ripoff in your case.

Even the newly released much cheaper $280 GTX 1660ti at 5.4 Tflops of performance isn't worth it for you. I'd send the RTX 2070 back for a refund unless you plan on playing other games with it in the future.

I do appreciate your input, however it ultimately was my decision to purchase the card. At least I can return it for a refund in my circumstances. It is what it is..... I will experiment with other AA settings.
