Maybe someone with experience making and placing child objects could do this.

What sounds did they reuse in this pack?

By my knowledge the F40PH DLC sounds are recycled

I just looked in there. They are not the same. Different size files

Shouldn't they sound the same?

They do. There's some very minor mixing changes, but it's still very much the same base sounds from the F40 and Class 59.

Anyone have both this new DTG offering and the RRMods version? If so how do they compare? Are they deep down the same loco models with different labels.
My apologies if this was asked or already discussed. A quick search didn't find anything.

They are not even remotely the same model.

Buzz said it, but I'll reiterate it for effect...

In my opinion, the RRmods GP40-2 is the most enjoyable locomotive to run in this game, bar none. The overall experience of operating it is unlike any 'out of the box' loco we have currently available. For the most part, I run trains in this game outside of the cab in a third person view. The RRmods loco has so much going on in the cab for sounds, and operational cab equipment, that I spend almost ALL of time time operating them in there.

I'll hop off my soapbox and let this thread re-rail itself.

I agree, RRMods is the best model however the brake script needs some work which hopefully they will fix in the near future. The units are useless on any grade over 1.5% further to a post I made with screenshots showing the issues. For now these units are stuck to yard service only till this is resolved by RRmods. On the other hand these new DTG units are one of the better offerings put out by DTG and are repaint-able, quite easily, which I am sure will appeal to many. If you know how to tinker with swapping out scripts and sounds you can even add Searchlight's sound, headlight flares and exhaust from their SD40-2 pack which I recently got somewhat working on an experimental unit. Adding these has made the units that more appealing however further work is needed at some point. Perhaps Searchlight will put out a pack for these too hint, hint.

Having just bought this pack with its first discount (25%) in the new sale, I have a question about the horn(s)

The CSX and NS models sound fine (to me, and not rivet or pitch counting)

The D&RGW, WP, and UP models clearly have a different horn . . they are all more west coast so I guess that is technically correct. However that horn starts with a brief "blip" before the main horn sound. Very noticeable, consistently, and annoyingly.

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it, so is it something freaky about my installation? Is there an equivalent horn that I can perhaps clone from another model to get rid of the "blip"?

I noticed the "blip" too, there are probably several other horns on the file library you could use.

If you will read the whole thread I posted about using the Searchlight horn.
