Cheyenne 1869 extension

*&!welcome!&*

Well, Smokebox's Cheyenne 1869 is a really good and highly detailed route but it's a bit short. So let's change this *!greengrin!*

For all of you, who think this will be Sherman Hill just with other tracks, you're wrong. In 1869 the railroad takes a different route over the summit.

For the first stage I'll extend the route till Laramie, following the historic grade via the town of Sherman which was just a little bit north of the Ames Monument and the highest point of the whole transcontinental railroad at 8,247 ft (2,514 m) above sea level.

Trackwork has already been done till Sherman, scenery is following a few miles behind.

What you'll need to run this route once it's available:

- The original route which is in the UP119 DLC
- And the "Radiomaster Vegetation" which is freeware

But first lets go to our startpoint which is Buford, where the old route splits up from the modern route.
I've left the GPS coordinates in the screenshot names so you can see where we are *!!wink!!*

IS this the site you were talking about when you said the Radiomaster Vegetation was free?

https://www.railsimulator.net/wsif/inde ... egetation/

If it is, make sure you tell people in you instructions that the orange button that says "Herunterladen" is the download button. :)

Some more screenshots and facts :D

In 1869 the route continues its way to summit more north from Buford than the modern route.
The route from Bufort to Hermosa was reroutet in 1901 and later a part of the original line was build over with the Loncoln Highway which was the first transcontinental highway and is I80 today

I haven't found any pictures how Buford has looked like in 1869, but I found the information that there has been at least a station built.

On the way to summit the railroad men saw a tree that was growing out of a granite boulder. They decided to preseve it and the tree still exists today

@wopflyer: Thanks and yes, that's the correct link. It's also available on rail-sim.de where I got my copy from. But I'll keep that in mind to notice that in the documentation !*salute*!

If anyone knows some other assets, that will fit in this time period just let me know *!!thnx!!*

After leaving Tree Rock we'll reach the steepest grade east of Sherman with 1.8%

After 31 miles from Cheyenne we're crossing the Lone Tree Creek

And now Sherman is just a mile in front of us

That explains why the UP considered this a helper district. I assumed there was a steep grade to Sherman, but this is a stiff grade even by contemporary standards.

This is going to be as challenging to operate as it is beautiful to look at. Excellent work!

The grade from Cheyenne is mostly 1.5% and maybe a quarter mile 1.8%. But from the Laramie side especially from Hermosa to Sherman there are long grades with 1.7% and 1.8%
I don't know if the grade was even steeper in 1869 but the grade was surely a factor why Harriman rerouted the track in 1901.

In the sim the ruling grade between Cheyenne and Laramie will be 1.8% The track is completely laid til Laramie :D

On my research for the route I found the two pics below on the USGS phote library
Sherman Roundhouse 3.jpg

On google earth there was a foundation in the wye next to the roundhouse which seems to was the depot (which is the Cheyenne depot as a placeholder for the moment) but on the picture below it looks like the depot was between the wye and the water tower...
Sherman Windmill 3.jpg

For the second picture I tried to change the time for the lightning and found out that the sun moves east, north, west instead of east, south, west !**conf**!

So while I'm doing the terrainwork down the hill maybe someone of you can help me to find some more information about Tie Siding?
It's location 1869 was here https://goo.gl/maps/rkS7tkqLiR32
