Thanks! The RS3's haven't really been touched in a little bit and the PRR A3 has been updated a little bit since the last post. But I'm planning on getting back to them soon though.

I'd like to see those RS3's running.

I've thought up some other wheel arrangements.

An 0-8-4T

A 2-8-4T
3ft Gauge 2-8-4T (Outside Frame) #1.jpg

A 4-8-4T (This one's pushing the conceivable limits)
3ft Gauge 4-8-4T (Outside Frame) #1.jpg

A 4-10-4T *!greengrin!* *!greengrin!* (If there's a line between plausible and overboard, I have gone way over that line with this.)

I may have gone overboard with the 4-10-4T, but it definitely has my interest in being finished. There's a couple more "conventional" wheel arrangements I have in mind that I want to make.

I also want to add that I will finish the RS3's. As of this moment, I'm having fun doing these freelanced steam locomotives and I want to dedicate some time to this project. Thanks for reading *!!thnx!!* *!!thnx!!*

I like this little criter.

May I suggest that you could have two or + versions of the headlamp; thus have it as a ''child object'''; a similar option could be used for the smoke stack. Whatever your choice it will be a wonderful addon.

Keep up the good work, QcRail

What headlights and smokestacks did you have in mind?

I like these engines, but I'd like to at least see one completely finished and running in the sim, perhaps one of the diesels.

I'm nearly finished modeling this water car

It's based off this On30 kit I found

I've got some more of the 0-8-0T done

Here's the other side

I also wanted to ask, does anyone know where I can find cab pictures of tank engines that were built in the 1890's to about 1905? I'm asking because the exterior is about half-way finished and I've looked for pictures of cabs, but I haven't found any yet. Anything is helpful. Thanks! *!!thnx!!* *!!thnx!!*

As far as American tank engines go your best bet is to dig up whatever you can on the Black Hills Central Railroad. They operate a variety of tank engines built in the 1920's. The hard part I found is since they are in South Dakota more or less in the middle of nowhere, finding any sort of cab picture is a tall task.

Well I'll be darned! I had no idea my "Bull Dog" would inspire someone like this! Hi there, this is Gunslinger but I go by Kegg Works for anything Trainz and Train Sim related. Just signed on after seeing this thread. Since the engine is my conception I'll be more than happy to help in any way I can.

I have to admit, adding onto what has been said already, a "modular" system where the smoke stack, headlight, ect... I think is a good idea. Aside from a strait stack, I think a "Capped Stack" (Like on Tweetsie #12) would look nice. And having round Oil lamps as well as more modern electric lamps would be good options to. Perhaps even allow for an oil fired version also? If you want to go that route.

This locomotive is essentially a tank version of a D&RG C-21 or C-25, but with a shorter boiler and firebox. The backhead would project into the cab about as far as the door frames for the side entry. And the interior would be similar to how a C class narrow gauge loco would be, minus the deckless part. Although not the best image, here is a pic looking into the cab of Flag Coal #75.

Image

And here is a link to a video on YouTube which may help. Also of the same locomotive, but with several shots from inside the cab.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KlknXwrEgM

I'll be on the hunt for some other cab references if you need them. And again, let me know if you need any help or info on something. *!lol!*

Wow, I have to say I was quite surprised to see this pop up in a google search! This is Gunslinger (I just go by Kegg Works when it comes to any train simulators) and I'm elated to see that my art has inspired someone. Especially for a game I actually play no less! You've done a fantastic job so far modeling and I can't wait to see it finished. Though to touch on a subject earlier I like the idea of having alternate parts, like different headlights and smoke stacks. The old Arch style oil headlamps would be a nice touch. Like what is on the Detroit & Lima Northern #7

Image

Of course a capped stack like that would also make a good option that could work well on the engine.

But to answer your question regarding locomotive backheads, I wasn't able to find any clear, decent photos, but I did find a video of Flag Coal 75. Which oddly enough is similar in size to what the "Bull Dog" would be. Not the best source but it shows a hand full of different angles inside the cab.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KlknXwrEgM

It might also help to know that the design is based on the idea of whether an engine like a D&RG C-21 or C-25 was built as a tank engine, but with a shorter boiler. So the backhead would be set up similarly to those locos, minus being deckless. In fact the cab interiors of the C&S 2-8-0s from the Clear Creek route may make a good reference when designing the backhead. (Only you'd actually be able to walk around the cab)

Anyhow, I'd be more than happy to help you in any way I can when finishing the locomotive!

PS: You will be adding windows to the front of the cab, right? *!!wink!!*

Thanks!! When looking for plans, I happened to find your drawings. I thought that the "Bull Dog" would be a good looking engine to have in the game.

Thanks for the information you found, I will definitely make use of it.

And yes, I do intend on adding front windows. I haven't worked out a shape for them yet.
Thanks again *!!thnx!!* *!!thnx!!*

Well this may help you with front windows. I stated building an HOn3 model of the Bull Dog and here is a photo of it.

Image

The engine also has a reverse light that's sorta' hidden under the cab overhang and above the fuel bunker. Perhaps you haven't gotten to that part yet or didn't notice it.

Image

In any case I can't wait to see more progress. You've done a top notch job so far!

Love the work so far! For a cab reference, Jack Bodenmann’s 7.5” gauge Alcalde & Coalfield #9 (a 2-4-4ST) has a rather nice, simple layout. A hydrostatic lubricator (#9 uses a mechanical lubricator), and tricocks, would round-out a proper “full scale” era-appropriate TS version. At its roots, it’s fundementally the same as an RMI locomotive’s backhead configuration, and as I’m building one, PM me and I’d be happy to answer any technical/specific questions related to their design.
