NKP S-2 Sound Revamp 2.0

Unread postby TheTeenageFoamer » Tue Apr 25, 2017 6:31 pm

I've figured out that sound making is what I enjoy most. *!greengrin!*

This time you will get these sounds!

I figured since the original creator mysteriously disappeared, I would take over and finally give these Berkshires the justice they deserve! I know a lot of people where quite upset that the original revamp became vaporware, so my goal is to deliver the delayed project to you! (even though I had nothing to do with the original one)

Thanks glad you like the chuffing! it was a real pain in the rear just to figure out how to make it audible.

Wow! I for one was very disappointed when the original project went vaporware. Thanks for taking on this project. Also, you nailed that 2009-2011 tuned Nathan 6 Chime. I was never quite satisfied with the one I made in my 765 whistle pack awhile ago. One question, will there be a new high speed loop (over 40 mph)?

Not sure on the high speed loop. Naturally, the faster a train goes, the harder it is to get a good sound loop. Personally I don't think the 40+ loop is too bad, however I will look into it. *!greengrin!*

Thanks on the whistle! I am having slight troubles figuring out what sounds are linked to what. For example: The cylinder cocks have the same sounds as the blower, and sander, so the new hiss for the cylinder cocks also plays when you turn of the sander, and blower.

The bell however will not be included because it's actually from your sound pack, plus if anything it would be the steel bell and not her brass one.

Doesn't hurt to ask, does it?

Well no...

Railfan587 if you don't mind would it be ok for me to add one of your steel bells to the pack? So that it's more of a complete sound change.

Well if things continue to go smoothly, I should have this out as early as Sunday or Monday. Latest will probably be next Tuesday.

It's alright if you keep the default high-speed loop. Like you said, it's actually not bad. In fact, I heard those exact same sounds in a SP&S 700 movie. I think it was called "SP&S 700 Homecoming". Also, the Weathered Berkshire pack has new medium and high speed loops and those are really good too.

I've tried my hand on making high-speed loops before (but I failed at doing chuffs). I used the audio from a clip from the NKP 765 dvd "Life Begins at 40". The clip was from a pacing and cab shot on the 1985 Buffalo-Corning trips in New York, and the 765 was running about 50 mph. It sounds like this...
NKP 765 High Speed.mp3

I've also tried using sound from this trailer, also around 50 mph (4:15-4:26).

P.S. I found out that the wartime built bells on the Berks were actually cast iron and not steel. My mistake.

Here is a pre-release for now. I am probably going to rework the chuffing in the near future. I had to split this into three parts because it would not upload to the forum if it was all one file.

For PT1 drop the sounds and proxybins into your main Berkshire audio folder, copy the file inside the "Chuffs" folder and paste them into the chuff folder in the actual engine.

For PT2 copy all the files in Chuffs Hi, and paste them into Chuffs Hi in the Berkshire's audio folder.

For PT3 copy all the CAB contents, and paste them into your Berkshire's Cab folder.

This is not the final product. I am just going to be real busy this week, so I am just releasing what I have so far just so that you guys can have new sounds.

MAKE A BACKUP BEFORE TRYING TO INSTALL

Wow! This sounds even more awesome than I thought! **!!bow!!** !!*ok*!! If you have the Horseshoe Curve route, drive thru Gallitzin Tunnel. You won't be disappointed. I have one minior suggestion. When working hard, the 765 can be heard from at least a mile away. The distance a sound can be heard is controlled by the "activation distance" line at the top of the proxyxml/proxybin file. The sim measures distance in meters. There are approximately 1609 meters in a mile.

Thanks! I didn't know how to make it heard from farther away and I was disappointed with the distance that the sound could be heard.
