Strange Block Text in the Menus

Unread postby ShadowSteel18 » Thu Apr 27, 2017 5:37 pm

Okay so it has been awhile since I have play Railworks so imagine my surprise when I started up my game after updating my drivers and see this.

Not sure what happened here. It's as if the game had changed its language and I can't change. Does anyone know what happened?

Have you tried restarting your computer ? The files for the startup screen are in your TS2017 data folder

This picture was taken after I restarted my computer at least once, so that didn't work. I'm trying to re-install it as we speak. I feel that is might be an issue with the install or my graphics drivers.

So after spending all weekend on re-downloading Railworks i am still having this issue with the block letters. !*hp*! I even reset the game to it's default graphic settings, but now I think I know the problem. One of the files for the HUD's font might be missing from the installation. I think that's why the menu is screwed up, but that's just me.

This was an issue with the release of TS2016. You might search for a solution on Steam Forums for TS2016. I have been searching for you as well. Maybe a Support ticket at DTG might give results. http://dovetailgames.kayako.com/

No one else seems to be having this issue except for me. No one on the steam forums seems to know what's going on. I may trying playing it on another PC at the house and see if the same thing happens.

Block text usually mean that it is a character or symbol that can't be read by your computer. Same thing happens to me on GTA V when i join a server where everyone is using a Chinese keyboard. They appear as ▯▯▯▯ in that game.

If it turns out to be the computer it's probably the driver for the video card. Let us know what happens.

There were odd reported issues with the last NVIDIA driver. One solution is to uninstall completely and reinstall. Only applies to NVIDIA based cards.

And... That's what I have, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950. Great... *!rolleyes!* I'm not sure how to uninstall the drivers and not mess up my PC. However if this is the problem then this needs to be done.

I don't think it is the Nvidia Drivers. I have the latest 381.89 drivers and my TS startup screen is alright.

Yes but you don't know if he has that driver. Let's wait and see after he checks it.

How do we know that he won't uninstall his driver without even checking.

It's not the drivers. GeForce had an update on May 3rd and after downloading it and installing it the game still had these blocked letters. !*hp*! This is getting ridiculous. I have over 400 hours on Railworks and never had this kind of problem. What's more is that installing on another PC will take several days due to the flooding going on here in the St. Louis area. The internet isn't that great out here in the boonies so downloading over 20 GB of data and another 900 MB of Workshop content is out of the question right now.

Have you run a cache verify on the game? That can take a while also particularly if you are having internet issues but maybe some file got messed up that this will find.
