Well, NS, you are the man with the extensive shots. What do you think? Do you see why this was so challenging to scenic?

More glamour shots of Ramsey. As I was doing this, I realized that in all this time that the super detailing has not been done. The Bergen is detailed, but I saved the close up detail for last - for fun. I have a lot to do - I clocked 5 hours working on this station and surrounding area!

I was driving the Morristown Line last night, I pulled out to look at the scenery... After running the Bergen for so long, years as you know, It is a different experience for me.

I went of the cab here on the NJCL version, stopped the train, looked around ... and quit the session. There is so much more to see than was done. It doesn't feel like the place.

Just a bit more reflection on all the work that has been done on the Bergen.

I can clearly see why it is so challenging to layout the scenery for this area! One look to either the left or right while crossing the viaduct leaves me amazed at how much land you can see from up there. I can tell there's just a little more work to do in the area but, at least for me, I get a very good feel of the lay of the land while traveling through. From a performance standpoint, It's very smooth running for me and this underpowered laptop. FPS is anywhere from 15-18 on average but again, it does run smooth!

Port Jervis vs. Campbell Hall

Split decision for me.

I can understand why some may want Port Jervis. It's the end of commuter operations. Then there's the turntable in Port Jervis and the tunnel in Otisville. Campbell Hall also makes sense. It has a station where commuter runs can begin/end. It's the interchange point for the Middletown & NJ with Norfolk Southern and it's also the last yard Norfolk Southern local service works out of.

I think it all depends what you want out of the final version of this route. One could even make an argument for Middletown being the end of the line since there's a station and the other M&NJ branch line.

NS, I can always count on you. Your performance is very similar to my build machine and 15-18fps is my floor for performance. I start to dial back my scenery when I hit that point. I am glad to hear you are getting a clean rendering when you run the line. I will definitely be doing Campbell Hall. I will very likely be drawn to go to Maybrook for the consignees and for historical reasons. From a game stand point this will be very similar to the Piermont and I know players love that single track, grass up close and deep foliage branch line run. With CH you can run some locals and do your pickups and deliveries there. That will definitely work and justify NS operations from Croxton to Suffern to Campbell Hall and back again. Will people build scenarios for it ? I don't know. But the operational capability will be there.

I will list out the challenges for going to Port Jervis.
1. Time - another year
2. Concern that that TS2017 will get phased out
3. Scenery in the Neversink/Delaware valley - same problem as the Moodna Creek - Extreme viewing distance - 10 -20 miles. Tree rendering unlikely.
4. When I get to PJ it will become apparent that the Old Main line has not been done ( Middletown to Harriman) (Hawthorn to Lydhurst) then what?
5. What year do I do PJ? Its been dead there for over 35 years. Some idiot burned the round house down. Its a railroad ghost town.
6. Port Jervis Scenery - the whole valley is visible from the track can the came sustain and can I build the entirety of that City, plus Matamoras, PA and parts of Montague, NJ?
7. City of Middletown/Wallkill, NY - dense and expansive city work.
8. Will this route get played?
9. If 1970 Port Jervis, how will I get 3rd party rolling stock into workshop?

I could never get DTG buy in for this route - I need this route to be DLC so I can have the assets it needs and to guarantee a high user count to justify the build. I can't just build all of this for me and 20 guys to play with.

I realized a while ago what I am doing here- I resurrecting my railroad.

Mlnerman,

Answering your request for comments: first, my compliments for your latest updates which are truly amazing! As to how my rig handles it, NStrains photos 3, 4,and 5 above illustrate best i.e. using the hill with 3 small humps. Looking straight on from viaduct that hill is 1/2 tree covered. As the view is moved either right or left the tree coverage moves up the hill until it has complete coverage. I think my video card simply needs some tweaking, but I need some time to do it. In the meantime just seeing far distant hills covered in green is most enjoyable and I give you a big *!!thnx!!* for your tremendous efforts.

Jack! Thank You ! I still have more to fill in both North and South of the Viaduct ( Houses, utility poles and more trees). In regards to the getting the trees to completely render - do set your viewing distance to maximum in game. It will hurt a bit, but on this part of the line you will always be the only train running. So we can sacrifice some FPS. I see more tweaking in the future to bring as many trees out as I can. In game, I am at 22fps along the trestle. Once I get the houses and detail in, I will add more trees till I hit 18 or so. Its really crazytown out there as I am very much pushing the limits of the game and what it can do.

I am so glad you appreciate the trees, so far away. This is a very unique place and it would have been a shame to not give you the foliage.

PS: NS - I recognize Martin's work anywhere! Keep testing - those a great units.

Gents, I have a request to close the thread down to protect the servers from getting ... unstable. The Bergen is just too darn big for one thread anyway!

101 pages is not the end, its the beginning of the end, or the end of the beginning.. uh. Anyway, lets go West!

I will wrap this thread up like we seem to always do - leaving Hillburn heading Westbound.
