Microsoft forcing Seven users to update to Ten?

I know many people are resistant to change, but from a technology standpoint this is probably a good thing. You DON'T want Microsoft to get itself back in the situation we were in with XP. That was an endless nightmare of security and patch disasters on a long-obsolete base. SO many people got their machines infected with malware so easily.

Apple maybe shows the better way here. They support hardware for 5 years or more, but eventually newer OS versions drop support of old hardware. Sometimes OS features or technologies are replaced completely. A few times they've even changed processor platforms. But what users get in return is a more modern and stable platform that's less prone to malware.

I'm NOT saying that Apple is perfect, mind you. They have abysmal GPU support which makes them a poor gaming platform for most of us.

Nice, so the Skylake I bought for my build late last year may or may not be blocked.

Build your new machine on Windows 10. There's not much down side other than making sure you set the privacy stuff correctly so that you don't necessarily give Microsoft more info than you want.

It's already done, I don't want to spring for a new OS yet.

I don't know why people are so paranoid about W10 and the privacy settings. I couldn't care less what MS get from me as I have nothing to hide. Perhaps some of you do, so I have just left mine at default. We don't have Cortana on our versions yet. :D

Many of us have professional software that has not migrated to win10 yet so we cling to our guns religion and win7 at this time. Along with the fact that I have 50 computers at work to switch over which isn't pocket change. The work continues but many of us are not ready for the 'Brave New World' yet.

Unfortunately at one time it was free to upgrade. At least there is still a compatibility mode.
Where I work we were waiting for General Motors to approve Windows 10. They did, 30 days after the free upgrade ended. Then they gave us a year to change over.

Tom
Just for the record, that's Cortana, not Cortona, a wonderful Italian town where I have the privilege to live at times.

There I was thinking it was Cortina, a venerable UK passion wagon where I had the dubious privilege to live in another life! Mine was the Lotus version as that's the way I had to sleep.

Windows 10 very stable post AU and Creator's.
Privacy issues now simpler to fix especially if you use O & O shutup 10 -Free antispy tool for Windows 10 https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 and if we recall it was a FREE upgrade to Windows 10 from win 7, 8, 8.1 etc, so it didn't cost anything to upgrade.

The free upgrade didn't apply to business anyway.

As far as forced updates to Win 10...
I'm not sure why some still think that's tinfoil hat stuff.
A few months ago Microsoft finally admitted to dirty tricks that, put unwanted 10 installs on a lot of PCs.

Eric

.
I agree, but as simmers we are just personal users not businesses! *!lol!*
The hospital where I work is on a statewide system of Windows 7 and there is no pressure from Microsoft for us to upgrade to Windows 10. We never upgraded to Windows 8.
Is it different in the States??
The transition from 7 to 10 could take a couple of years at least, our IT department tell me. All of our equipment has to be revalidated to ensure it runs OK before the switch. !!*ok*!!

The reason I said what I did, was because it was mentioned above that, certain companies didn't upgrade to 10 until after the free update was over.
I got the impression that those persons thought the upgrade to 10 was free to everyone.
