Some basic EMD SD70M questions

Unread postby Cardinal51 » Sat Dec 31, 2016 4:17 pm

I am missing some basic knowledge of the EMD SD70M locomotive.

I tried to find a EMD SD70M manual in my TS2017 directories (searched for all pdf), but did not succeed.

- How do I increase the radio / cb volume ?
- Where can I read up on the loco brake system. I would like to understand why the lowest setting is 20%
- Is this a stock TS2017 engine, or is it an add-on ?

I have a SD70M UO manual in my Manuals En folder inside the Railworks folder.

I only found the manual "SD70 Volume 2 Manual" , which does not address my questions.

just had another issue. When resuming the scenario my default cab is not the front one but the second one. I can change cabs with crtl + or ctrl - , but as soon as I click on the Interior Camera or the Head Out Camera I am back in the wrong cab. Is there a solution for this effect ?

I tried going to the correct cab..... saving the scenario..... quitting..... resuming, but that did not do the trick.

The SD70M comes with the Sherman Hill route. It features Mike Rennie's advanced brake script which models the 'bail off' feature of the independent brake, hence it is at 20% in the released position. The brake cylinder pressure should release to 0 lbs when the independent brake lever is at 20%.

You have to be stationary when you change cabs.

Thanks guys, That did the trick. The Wrong Cab issue is solved. And I also understand the 20% setting is normal.

But re starting the train is very difficult. Spent 2 hrs on it and still do not have a solution that seems to work.

This is what it looks like... Any suggestions where to read up or what to do ?

Just found out that I can only start driving when using a combination of Cab Controls and HUD.

This is my workaround.....

- Cab Control reverser fw
- Cab control train brake release
- HUD Control power lever a bit "up"

I am not sure why this works, but at least I am rolling again.

I notice you have the same issue I do .... no needle showing on the loadmeter (ammeter). Try turning the instrument lights on. That makes it appear for me.

Don't know what you are doing, but I have no problems driving the SD70M. Are you using quick drive ? I'm driving it using the career scenarios.

*!embar*! What button / key combination to switch on the instrument lights ?

I took this screenshot.......

As you can see I am driving with 11 MPH but no indication on the AMP meter.

How does this gauge indicate the AMPs ? Should there ne a needle / pointer ?

Yes, I use Quickdrive.

Perhaps this was a buglet in the system, because since yesterday the problem is gone and I can start driving whenever I want, no endless tweaking needed.

I can start driving by just using the HUD controls, just using cab controls, or a combination. !*YAAA*!

I am still wondering how to increase the volume of the radio /cb.

To change the volume of the radio you have to edit the locomotives bin file. Turn on the instrument lights is usually the "i" key. The amp meter needle won't show up because it wasn't added to the cab file or animated.

Thanks John. Too bad there is no hidden volume button in the cab.

Regarding the AMP meter it Ken is right. After turning off (I think it is off and not on) the instrument lights (Key I) the AMP needle becomes visible.
