Buzz doesn't need the money. You need the Whiskey to carry on brother.

Heading up to Utica this weekend to take a trip on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad to see the leaves change with the wife of a recently departed member of NERW. We gotta get together again soon for some... !*cheers*!

Aye Brother - The Bergen is fueled on Bourbon ... my Bulliet is down to the last 4 ounces and Harriman is calling me to rebuild.
We will get to the Moodna - rest assured. After that, I'm calling Matt P. to take a drive. EPIC! *!lol!*

Buzz doesn't personally need the money however this forum doesn't run on air and it's been a long time since we did anything to raise money. Bob is the owner here. I'm just the caretaker trying to heard cats most days.

I was wondering why so many of the switches at the Ford plant are dispatcher controlled?

Answer - Because its wrong. I was under the impression that the track was controlled by SF Tower. So I presumed they were electric. Overall, yes operations were controlled by the tower, but not at the switch level, that we was handled by the crew that worked Ford Mahwah. I finally found a picture that shows the yard office AND a bunch of switches - with manual stands. Its been very very tough to find images of rail operations at the Ford Plant. It seems I have lost that picture for the moment. It is the ONLY image I have from the ground.

This would be the 3rd time the switches were changed. I had them right the first time as manual.
You get a plus 10 for poking around Mahwah!

Thanks, I decided to run a Quick Drive local out of Hillman and found that I couldn't do much when I got there.

I really like that most of your industrial sidings off the main line have manual switches so that Quick Drive scenarios can work them.

I wish that was by my design. I look very very carefully to see what is electric and what is not. If I cant get it confirmed, by reading or imagery, I have to guess. Some of the switches I know are spring or electric based from the actual EL manual I use for the route. Case in Point: The switch at Nepera is electrically controlled from Hoboken.

I really appreciate you going down there and asking questions. So, while I had planned a full rework. I corrected the issue that you pointed out and modified something that you will notice immediately. I didn't have my research material out for some of this so I did it from memory.

So, I have created a QD for use called "Ford Trick". Take a switcher or 1 road unit and cruise around the yard. Your assignment is to bring a string of 15 Auto Racks or 25 Box cars to the Ford Lead.

Route Update #138
Bridge and Scenery Harriman, Mahwah remove remaining electric switches at Ford, Correct Bridge over Ramapo and create new QD for user Main Lines on RWA.

Enjoy!
!*cheers*!

I take a ton of pictures of just scenery. The running gag with some of my route builder pals is that this game is really Terrain Simulator. Harriman is a case in point. While all this work is justified as scenery around the Nepera plant, its really the background for your view from the mainline. What is here is a 1.5 by 2.5 mile somewhat defoliated plain, that is surrounded by 900 to 1300 foot hills (in NY that's a Mountain). What I hope is clear is that rail roads follow the rivers and streams and you can see that in the geology I attempt to convey.
20161010084545_1.jpg

So, morning after morning and night after night, I slug it out, one asset at a time. The purpose: get to the end of this work. And I am getting closer. My hope is to create the most spectacularly rendered scenery possible and make this the best 25 miles of forest running ever. I firmly believe that this scenery work makes running any train any where on this route more immersive than in other offerings. The real scenery is so diverse and interesting visually that I can just copy what I see and that is over half the battle. Mentally, I am gearing up for the next three miles after this section form Harriman to Woodbury, NY is complete. Its a continuation of the valley that I have been working on the past 3 months. This, will lead to the 3,000 foot Moodna Viaduct. I cant believe I am doing all this work just to have even more intense work and the engineering challenge of building this structure without Maria's Pass or even vertical trusses. Then, the bridge looms 190 feet above the valley and you have amazing viewing distance to the North and South. There is an unbroken view some 10 miles distant to the North and about 7 to the South. This means I have to put those distant mountains in. This is something to wrap your head around for sure!

Unfortunately, pictures cannot convey what it looks like in game. There are so many little hills, cuts and inclines everywhere here. Some are subtle, others are more obvious. When you get up here peek out the window of the cab and just look at the rise and fall of the canopy of trees and it goes off in the distance.

Enjoy.

I'm really looking forward to the Moodna viaduct. Thanks for all the hard work on this route. Even in the current state it is a blast to ride.
