I know how you feel Minerman about the Southern Tier. My avatar does reflect those same feelings you have of the Bergen & of the NY & Delaware Divisions of the EL. MP12 is Van Winkle Ave in Garfield. It was my vantage point as a kid for photo ops besides the old Plauderville & Garfield (Ritz) station (Before the fire in late, there actually was a station, not a shed to those who don't know). It also where I learned more about the EL more than any book could tell me at the time.

I got an occasional hack ride with the great men of the EL & CR on the Dundee. The early-mid 70's were a special time. I remember one of the men, his name was Walter who I knew from the drills told me if I love the railroad that much. I might want to see & take photos north of Suffern & work my way up to Binghamton. I ask why because & got my answer. The EL might not be the same in a few years. Cutting back by single tracking parts of the NY Division & most of the Delaware Division. He told me that if the EL survives, the Delaware Div. could be totally eliminated. As a kid I couldn't fathom that. Remembering him telling me "Agnes was a bad lady.". Then showing him photos of our house flooded (back then the 4th ward in Garfield flooded like crazy & Agnes nailed us bad) & him saying you know what I mean then.

Then after 4/1/76 would start to bring an end to a division I loved so much. I was lucky that there still was drills on the Dundee which had a lot of customers at the time, Carlton Hill was still busy, the Vornado Drill, plus smaller drills on the BCL by me like American Foods (AKA Guildens Mustard), Raia Industries (Cement, now where Gemini Plastics is) plus the exchanges with the NYSW @ Passaic Jct. (Thank you also John Treen of the NYSW for teaching me a lot about the Susie Q & Erie also). But disappearing more and more were the long hauls, traffic was really down by the summer of 78 then by 1980 whatever autoracks coming from Mahwah with loads of Granadas, Zephyrs & Fairmounts were gone when Ford closed.

I moved from here in 1980 & relocated to the Jersey Shore. I witness another of my favorite NJ routes for railfanning fade into oblivion too. The CNJ's Southern Division & Barnegat Branch. When I came in there, everything south of Lakehurst was mostly a memory & the Barnegat was a shell of its former self. Then moving back to Garfield 30 years later, things did change & to me not for the better.

In my area, long gone are any long freights along the BCL. At times I might catch a pick-up with the NYSW at Passaic Jct. Jimmy Wilson & the NY&GL with the Dundee was a highlight, but now it is idle. The NYSW long gone is the ROW between Lanza Ave to Outwater Lane. The grades crossings I use to help flag with the late John Treen at times gave way to homes & the new home for GFD #4. Garden State Paper folded because of the Enron debacle & the plant dismantled. The tracks leading into there & the Forstman Woolen Plant silent. Amazing that this city, a city of 2 railroads you have to really look to see activity outside of NJT operations.

So my feelings about how you see the Southern Tier & the area overall are the same. The NYSW I feel will be absorbed into at least CSAO. Afterall both the NS & CSX each own 40% of it & DO owns the other 20%. Remember after Walter Rich died in 2007, they cut operations a lot & sold off equipment left and right. I feel the Delaware Division will be abandoned too like the trustees for the EL wanted to do. I think the cost would be too high to leave it for detour traffic for the CSX like they do at times today. Gone too would be the remnants of the LHR in North Jersey. Will be a sad day when and if it comes.

As for NS & CSX operation on here today. I really like to know more because I been sort of an outcast to it also since its heyday. I guess I better catch up on some reading & viewing in real life also.

That is why I give you a real heartfelt thank you for creating the Bergen here. You really created here a piece of history besides the best looking route for TS2017. Given the true knowledge you have of it because to experienced & lived it. That is why it really is the most prototype route available. Getting to relive the Dundee alone brings the smiles. "Black Rock Cut" & "Rundle's Curve" might hold a great place in our lexicon Minerman, but to have lived them, made them very special. *!!thnx!!*

I see that there are three NS Intermodal trains that run from Croxton Yard to Chicago (2) and Toledo. Do any of these trains use the Bergen Line westward?

mmss1,
I could not possibly add to your comments. They do embody a very familiar sentimentality that is the driving force behind this project. You recognize it, and for that, you have my gratitude.

If I may, I would like to paraphrase Mr. Matt Peddlesden of DTG who was driving Westbound on the BCL at Passaic Junction, when he saw the route the first time." I feel like I am part of the world here, its busy and alive. I am completely convinced I am in this place".

Indeed Matt, Indeed.

Its time again to 'get on with it' and press Westward to the Graham line and the big finish.

Too all of you !*salute*!

Harry

I believe all NS traffic in/out of Croxton is via Jersey City.

I would appreciate any assistance from the NS Guys out there to compile any info they have on NS Operations after Conrail to the Present.
My information is ... ummmm a bit dated! *!lol!*

I would be willing to compile that in my operations guide that can be found here on my scenario builders thread. There is a link for the actual document on the page. This is the kind of conversation that would work there as well as here! Harry is clearly thinking about how to use the Bergen!

WOW ! That is fantastic !! I am really glad that someone from DTG recognized that work and detail you put into this route. Shows you that it doesn't go unnoticed. I remember the first time I loaded in the Bergen and drove it. I had to call my wife over and told her "Look at This". She thought is was some kind of VR thingy on the PC. Then she said, "Holy $*&#, that is Monroe Street !" So see, even she noticed the level of realism in the Bergen. Myself, I was just jaw-dropped in plain English *!lol!* .

Well now time to run a few empty autoracks from Croxton up to Ford so I can get'em filled with some Granadas !!!

NOW THAT is the kind of reaction I loooove to hear about!
Speaking of Ford... I had held back on the image below so as to not hog the WIP page all the time.
The point... we do our research here at Minerman Labs!

On Ford... My aunt worked at the Mahwah Plant from 1971 to 80. She actually bought on of the last Granadas that came off the line. I knew she had a paper showing in was the 5th one from the end. She also had everyone on the line who assembled it at one point sign the underside of the trunk lid. After she passed away my cousin inherited it. Still has it to this day & told me last time I talked to him it runs great with less that 17K on the clock. Good old Jersey production !

My Dad, worked the plant from Early 77' to Mid 78, he worked outside the plant on the Ford Trick!
History is so thick on this thread you have to brush it away from your face!

The book above can be ordered from the Mahwah Museum. I got a few decent pictures of the plant that are too small but got a healthy amount of Bergen County history as far as Ford goes out of it.

The facility on the Bergen is crying for a revamp. I am very surprised there isn't more talk about using it for scenarios. Over time it has been rarely touched with screen shots. I closed the QD to it some time ago, but still reference it (the Ford Lead) in QDs to Suffern. That was built during the first 6 months of construction of the Bergen. It holds up, but needs some more ... BAM!

Yeah it could use a little sprucing up there at the plant. I think having the operations guide that you made will help those of us who know nothing about how it was operated. !!*ok*!!

Alright, so I got something weird.
I check my "Shared with me" on Google Drive, and waddya know, it's a whole bunch of Lackawanna repaints (and one NS repaint) from somebody named Adam(?)
Do we know a guy named that? I'm putting it here, because this is technically a Lackawanna route (I Think). It's slightly worrying me.

Man called Guarddog backwards,

That would be my google drive. And yes you came to the correct thread!

Best,

If you click my links in this thread ( as I have posted them here before) you get that message from google drive. I created open links to those repaints. So anyone with Google who clicks them would see it. Interestingly, I don't see you or any others, only one name, who I know shows up.

I did that adhoc, when I should have created an alias. So now I am a found man.

Its kinda funny: "OMG I found a hoard of Erie Lackawanna Repaints on meh Googles! Where did that come from?"
There is only one place to find that kind of data gold - right here! !*roll-laugh*!
