Can You Change Horns For Individual Units

Unread postby ET44C4 » Tue Aug 23, 2016 3:18 pm

Is it possible to change the horn for individual locomotives? Say I wanted a P5 for the NS Dash-9 but I use the BNSF units more. Could I have the BNSF units using a K3LA and the NS using a P5? I'm talking about the Dash-9 pack but my question is for all DLC.

Yes, you would need another horn xml and horn proxyxml/proxybin set copied and renamed for the P5. After that Change the proxyxml to look at the P5 horn files. Once done, change the NS dash 9's xml so that it looks for the P5 horn xml.

The Dash-9 pack has only one audio folder that covers all locomtives. Your saying I can copy the xml and proxyxml files then change to read the P5 for the NS unit? Yet still have BNSF using K3LA?

Actually there are no xml files in the audio folder or in any other folders.

First: Zek is fully right. That´s the way to have multiple horns.

About your sentence above, the bin files are binary xlm.

Files like engine bins point to a horn driver xlm in an audio subfolder. But there the format is a binary.
Every horn (and loco sounds as well) have an xml sound driver (bin) that points to the proxys. For these, you need always a proxyxlm and the the binary of that xlm.

That is in Dash 9 and in any DLC.

Once again I would like to point out that you can alias a horn to a locomotive by just changing the engine bin folder and you don't have to mess with all this stuff others are talking about. Generally the horn is a child object and all you need to do is reference the other locomotive which has the horn you like.

I have also many of my locos aliased this way. This procedure works great.
