I'm just curious, with the new game engine that's supposedly going to come out at some point, will TS still have a long road ahead in regards to compatibility with modern PCs in the 2020s? Personally, I hope it continues to get updated and supported, since despite it's bugs, it's not a hard game to get the hang of, once you've gone through the initial learning curve etc.
I'm thinking of building an Australian route that will be nothing like the line that starts at a small country town, and continues for 60 kms through an open arid environment to another one. This route will start at a major rural city (that's slowly becoming urban now), and require a lot of research and commitment to build it to standard. It starts at the coast, and heads south and west for as far as I'm willing to build. The hard thing about it is that the most appealing era to me to build it in is around 1900. It's one of my goals with route building, as it would be outstanding to have a version of this route for TS. The MSTS version was very popular, despite being built before there was DEM data available.
I've been wanting to do it for years, but it will be a very tedious project for me compared to placing houses/fencing in blocks for a short period. It may take over a year to complete.
