Mike,

I'd just like to drop in and say this is some awesome work you're doing. Any plans for a set of matching passenger cars of similar quality?

Cheers,

deLuxe

Thank you, I'm glad you like it :D Yes, I'll be making a selection of period cars, both passenger and freight.

!*cheers*!

Looking good Mrennie! !*salute*! I haven't been on facebook for a while so I've missed a lot of updates on your Jupiter project.

Where the loco is wood-burning, do you need to do any special scripting for the firing like you did the 844 or do you not need to worry about that since it's not an oil-burner?
If what you've done is stupid but it works, then it really isn't that stupid at all.

It'll work the same way as a coal-burner. I'll take into account the calorific value of the wood and the amount it should burn through.
The thing that will be more interesting is the scripting for the mechanical feedwater pumps driven off the piston crossheads - they pump only when the crossheads are moving, which makes it a challenge to maintain the water level in the boiler *!lol!*

I've read up on those. There are accounts of trains being delayed at stations because the driver and fireman needed to run the locomotive backwards and forwards a bunch of times in order to fill the boiler *!greengrin!* Cases like that were typically the product of poor planning. Now that'll be challenging on a whole other level than previously seen on TS2016, especially when having to stick to a timetable!

I've also been told about another technique that could be used - they could deliberately grease the rails and do a controlled wheelslip to get the drivers turning and pumping water without actually going anywhere *!lol!* It'll be possible to do that in-game by selecting the "wet leaves" friction setting.

I never would have thought of that. Well, as long as the cylinders don't bust off I suppose.
