NY Division Bergen Line: Correcting Asset Paths for Subscribers

Unread postby minerman146 » Thu Jun 02, 2016 8:14 pm

Here is my issue:

I use the following assets in a steam workshop route: Sherman Hill, Munich - Augsburg - NJ Coastline, European and American Asset Packs and some of the American asset (from Cajon Pass) show up as milk bottles, when the have all the packs. I have reproduced this on a separate account.

On the machine I build the Bergen on - this is not an issue, of course. But what can I do to ensure that the paths are good to the assets so all the assets render?

Here is a list of items on my route one subscriber noted:
The following assets are in erroneous path: it is possible to correct them ?

All but the last 5 have an extra RailsimulatorUSAssets\ in the path.
should be Assets\Kuju\RailsimulatorUS\Scenery or Assets\Kuju\RailsimulatorUS\RailNetwork etc

The last 5
Assets\Kuju\RailsimulatorUS\Scenery\Temp\Characters\Female_Sitting_NA_02.bin (Scenery Item) on tile -000003-000001.bin
Assets\Kuju\RailsimulatorUS\Scenery\Temp\Characters\Male_Standing_NA_03.bin (Scenery Item) on tile +000001-000001.bin

\Temp needs to be removed

Assets\RSC\MunichAugsburg\Scenery\Procedural\MA_screen_fence_type_C - Copy.bin (Loft Item) on tile +000001-000025.bin
Assets\RSC\ShermanHill\RailNetwork\TrackRules\CheyenneLaramieRule - Copy.bin (Loft Item) on tile +000006-000042.bin
Assets\RSC\ShermanHill\RailNetwork\TrackRules\HSCTrackRule - Copy.bin (Loft Item) on tile +000000+000000.bin

for these 3 [ - Copy] needs to be removed

Overshoe - Thank you.
This would be my first attempt at correcting asset paths.
On my machine I see everything of course. What is the method for making this correction?
Change Asset Folder path then then relay the asset?
I imagine I have to ensure that my folder structure matches my subscribers so that the paths match.

My day job for the last 25 years I worked involved verifying a lot of code. I got so I could see errors, but I was not the guy who had to make the corrections, so I am guessing here based on what little I have learned about xml.

I think you will need to serz the respective bins to xml, manually edit the bad lines and serz the xml back to bin. I have read here on the forum that you can do that with RW_Tools but I don't know the procedure.

A quick workaround for the last 5 is to create the path and copy the files into the new folder or in the case of the copy files, to go to the folder in the path and make copies of those two files.

I hope that makes sense. Sometimes I confuse myself.

RWTools just lets you work directly with the bin file and automatically makes a backup. It's just doing the conversion back and forth so you don't have to and making the backup if you mess up. Very handy.

I am reviewing the folder structure of the Cajon Pass Assets.
This path is valid:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\Kuju\RailsimulatorUS\Scenery\Buildings\
This path is valid:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\Kuju\RailsimulatorUS\RailsimulatorUSAssets.ap

I also found the temp file with some of the Cajun Pass Assets in it ...

What I must do - is modify my xml. to point to the DEFAULT location for my end users. I would say I have 2 correct locations to the same assets. The first is an absolute path to the asset. The second points to the compressed (.ap) file.

This needs to be presented to the end users consistently - so which one (full path) or (.ap)? Its my understanding that the .ap would ALWAYS be correct.

Thank goodness I have RWtools - and thank you Buzz.
