Yes, there'll be an initial set of rolling stock.

There won't be an air compressor - I'm doing Jupiter as she would have been when built, which will make it more of a challenge to operate.

That will take me forever to learn, because I simply am not that good at driving steam locos. Oh wait, didn't you say there was going to be a simple mode? !*roll-laugh*!

any chance that when you are done with the initial pack you could do a more modern version with air brakes and so on and release it on the workshop?

I might do a modern version, but as it would involve a considerable amount of work (it's not just the compressor - I'd also have to add the engine brakes, the lifting injectors, convert her to oil, and so on), so it would definitely be payware in any event.

mike, i personally am pretty sure jupiter originally had a compressor at the time of the golden spike.

Nope, It originally didn't have a Compressor, not until 1882.

While the replica Jupiter and 119 were originally gas fired (I believe it was gas, it was something odd) when they were first built, they were later converted to wood and coal, respectively. So a modern version would still be wood fired.

That's my understanding too.

It's easy to see why, from this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westinghouse_Air_Brake_Company

The Westinghouse Air Brake Company (WABCO) was founded on September 28, 1869 by George Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.[1] Earlier in the year he had invented the railway air brake in New York state.

So there's no way "Jupiter" could have had air brakes in May 1869.

Yep, all my locos, despite what they say now about the "Pro series" not supporting HUD, controllers and simple mode, actually do (because I take the time and trouble to make them work).

Excellent! That clears up a doubt I had. The drawings show the gas burner at the bottom of the firebox and a gas tank in the middle of the tender (where it would be covered with "fake" wood), but the cab photos I've seen of Jupiter don't show a firing handle or atomizer, and recently i found a photo of the tender with only a few bits of wood left and I couldn't see any gas tank. What also confused me is that Leviathan does have a firing handle, so I assume David Kloke built his replica with the burner, as per the O'Connor Engineering design.

Many thanks for the info !!*ok*!!

You're welcome! :)

The Leviathan is oil fired compared to natural gas, like the original configurations of the Jupiter and 119 replicas. The recent replica 4-4-0 "York" is also oil fired. I believe conversions for Jupiter and 119 was in the early 1990's.

There's air brake equipment in the cabs of the Jupiter and 119 replicas, so I think it's safe to say they have air brakes. Also, there appears to be an anglecock (minus hose) on the rear of the tenders of both Jupiter and 119.

see, leviathan has air brakes. notice the brakes between the drivers
