Just a small update after taking a brake to get life stuff done and get a new pc set up.
The coupler and connecting hose will have to wait as I can't seem to make the coupler head a shape i'm happy with **!!bang!!**

FrontrunnerWIP1.jpg

Just a few more decals to add, paint the wheels and make it dirty.
I've yet to see a picture of one in service that doesn't look worn out so i'll try and capture that look.
Unfortunately my UVmapping skills when i started this project were basic to say the least so repainting it might be a problem.
At least I've learned for my next project.

I've ran in to a couple of issues but nothing major.
The first one is that the car is loaded all the time.
I added a trailer to the model but it is there even when the loaded box is unchecked.
The second one is my latest texture update doesn't appear in the game.
I've tried the usual cache clearing and even re-exported the model from 3dcrafter.
I'm not sure what i've done wrong as i did it the other day and it worked fine.
Anyway here's some pics as people prefer eye candy to problems *!greengrin!*

The first pic is the latest paint but the rest were taken after I should have updated it.
I've also failed to recreate the one thing the wagon was famous for, derailing. I've tried but I can't recreate it so far !*don-know!* !!*ok*!!

How to Derail 101
Step 1. Couple to some cars
Step 2. Flip off any and all speed limits and go as fast as you can
Step 3. Find a curve
Step 4. Tilt on one set of wheels for a bit and then let gravity do the rest
Hopefully this short class will benefit you out in the field.

Ok I couldn't resist !*roll-laugh*!
But in all seriousness, excellent work! !!*ok*!!

Or: Make a really really long train at least one mile minimum and put 5 or 6 6-axle GE or EMD units on it and put them in notch 8 from stop and it will derail the WHOLE train Garunteed !!det!!

Or simply use the Super ES44DC and put like 12 units up front, and 12 in the back. You're guaranteed to derail in less than a minute as long as you have the slightest curve. !*roll-laugh*!

But seriously, it's looking liike it only needs some finishing touches! !!*ok*!!

Getting back to the topic at hand... The car looks great Roy, especially if those are the 'older' textures! What are you setting the cars loaded weight at?

The max weight is 32.5 tons and empty 13 tons.
I'll need to re check what I've put in as a uk and a us ton are different and the game uses uk tonnes.
The older texture is really just the unfinished texture although I'll probably use it as a base for a cleaner one.

Looking good. It will fit in perfect for the 90's era look that I like so much. Quick question...TTX had a version with 4 of them drawbar connected and called it the "4Runner". The paint job is a bit different and photos I've seen show a hand rail between the brake platforms and the wheel platforms. Any plans on doing that version? If not, no biggie. Just curious. I'm starting to realize how labor intensive creating content can be, so your efforts are much appreciated. Now if we could just find someone to do one of the 5-unit spine cars and and then figure out how to put some containers on a 89 ft flat(both of which I've read about here someplace)...

I've never managed to find any pictures of the 4runners whilst they are still in a set.
The main close up pictures I used for referance are actually a 4runner at a museum in Ohio (I think).
It has a heavily weathered, flaked and rusted paint job but as far as I can tell was still originally TTX yellow and black.
I've not seen any pictures with the extra handrails fitted but it shouldn't be to hard to add in.
I've only noticed the handbrake wheel height looks different on some wagons.
If you could add any links for pictures that would be really helpfull as I thought i'd pretty much found every pic on the web.

Thanks
Roy

I wouldn't worry about the red trucks. I've never been much of a painter and i was still learning photoshop when i did that. It was rust weathering gone wrong !DUH!

Yip I'm still stuck with a couple of things so this hasn't gone away.
Until I can get my alpha channel working on part of the texture and a trailer to sit on it when I tick a box I can't release it.
That's the only hold up. Any help with either would be brilliant !!*ok*!!
I can send out any files as needed *!!thnx!!*

Apart from the problems I've been running them around to check they aren't killing the graphics cards or anything like that.
Luckily my LODS must be working as for a pretty high poly model I'm getting no worse frame rates than standard models.

Are you using the DXTBmp utility? With it you can just open your file whether it be a bmp or a dds click on the Alpha tab and one of your choices is to create a alpha template. Do whatever you want with it and then when you save as a dds just use that one.

Hope that helps with that problem.
