Locomotives and Freight Cars With Faulty Brakes - NS Coal District

Unread postby FHRob » Mon Feb 29, 2016 3:44 pm

I was attempting to run the career scenario "Power Supply" on the NS Coal District.

As per usual, everything is fine until you start going downhill, pun not intended. !*not-ok*! If you touch the train brake, the whole train comes to a halt. **!!bang!!** The dynamic brakes can't hold this train going downhill, despite two engines on the front and two on the rear, which I believe is realistic.

Is there any fix for the NS Coal District ES44AC & Coal hoppers?

I'm assuming you're using Expert mode right?

I'm gonna try it out and see if I have the same issue.

Correct - expert mode.

Seemed just fine to me! Although I didn't apply enough train brake fast enough at the end to stop before the signal. This was done with controls and brakes on expert level.

Dynamics held the train just fine going downgrade. I was typically holding 25.5 at about 60% dynamic.

OK, I'll give it another try and let you know what happens.

Was there any train brake on during the downgrade?

Keep in mind that the brakes on NS Coal District are an earlier attempt at advanced brakes, not done by me. They are considerably less realistic than the brakes in Soldier Summit and the TS2016 Sherman Hill diesels, so you shouldn't expect them to work the same way.

No I never needed to touch the train brake until I was making my final stop at Emerald.

Is there a way to circumvent around this, such as setting the brakes to easiest?

I think if you set the NSCD brakes to Easiest, they basically work the same way as the old, default US diesel air brakes (no attempt at simulating the lag between the equalizing reservoir pressure and the brake pipe pressure). Personally, I'd like to see the NSCD locos updated with my brake scripting, but that's now entirely up to DTG.

Which setting did you use, if any, for the brakes?

When starting this scenario, the HUD shows 17% application. On the digital readout, it shows brake pressure of 74 and brake cylinder pressure of 37. The brake handle seems to be set to minimum.

Is this correct?

Really don't understand why DTG didn't implement your newer brake system when they included Penn Coal with TS2016 Steam.

There is a lot you don't seem to understand.
